Amazing being on Musqueam Tuleil Wautaugh territory British Columbia Vancouver Canada for a Symposium and presenting at the Learning with the Land Global projects with Uni Melbourne and Monash University on the results and new educational protocols around nature based learning.

Thanks to Emiretus Professor Dr. Rita Irwin and Musqueam Wautaugh Aunt Professor Shannon Leddy

Grateful to have this opportunity and as a team we have X3 published papers and have just secured a book publisher who will be including our combined works in an upcoming publication on First Nations connection to Country and Country based Learnings.

Blessed to do this work โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Little scrawling/drawing of Yam Daisy...

Here in VIC known as Murnong

On Darug country known as Midyini

Often confused with Dandelions, & Cats Ear, but subtle differences & a reminder that you really need to correctly identify species!

In my Murnong/Midyini learning sessions I use a Plant identification dance as a tool to teach the distinguishing features of Yam Daisy ๐ŸŒผ and, yes... Everyone gets to join in ๐Ÿ™‚

Little weaved mini Eel Trap..

My style is Contemporary Modern, with lots of colours.

Taught to weave by my aunties and my sister Kursty.

It's a newly acquired skill, but it is ok to be a "beginner at any stage".

Inspired by a recent exhibition I attended on "fishing" at a gallery in Melbs. I learnt that once the traps have been used in saltwater they are warped, so tried to create that affect.

Being a Baramadagal Darug woman with ancestors who lived along the Parramatta river | Baramada at the meeting of saltwater and freshwater (in modern times where the Parramatta ferry is located) we are eel people. So this piece has meaning for me.

3 weeks until โœˆ๏ธ I fly out to Canada to attend an Indigenous symposium & conference at University of British Columbia Vancouver...

Dr Geraldine Burke will be presenting our soon to be published 3rd research paper & results of our two year Artography project.

This incredible project was started by in her role as First Nations Lead at McLelland Gallery + Sculpture Park and allowed myself and colleague aunty Karan and my sister Kursty to work with Priscilla (research assistant) and Monash University also MUMA to create a Nature and Art based approach to education weaving in First Nations led practises & knowledge.

Working with Intergenerational Learning it included such things as; chemical free Bush Dye, Native Plant and Bushfoods education, Wayapa Wuurk sessions, Nature walks & cultural awareness training by all carried out mostly outside. An outdoors classroom!

We will all be presenting the results at the conference and doing Wayapa session and Weaving with our International attendees.

Blessed to do this work with these dedicated, Culturally strong women and most importantly train Pre-service teachers how to Embed first nations perspectives into educational settings. Having them engage with Indigenous facilitators and respectfully working with us.

Opportunities to connect with our shared communities & bringing about system changes.

Most special part of this project was working with all ages from U3A members up to 83 years, Occupational Therapy department & RAIL centre Monash along with Primary School students & Pre-service teachers.

Preparations for a Native Hibiscus ๐ŸŒบ Sorry Day Flower making session..

Sorry Day falls on Monday 26th May this month.

It is a beautiful tribute to our Stolen Generations survivors and their offspring.

The Native Hibiscus (desert Rose) being the flower chosen by Kimberly Stolen Generations to represent the resilience of the SG. Although fragile, it grows in almost any conditions including barren, desert like areas in Central Australia.

Acknowledgement of the past and a nice way create a tribute and reminder in the present.

This is a one that I encourage Educators and Pre-service teachers to do at Monash where I work all of the staff have done this as a team building exercise. Respectfully ๐ŸŒบ
