If you came to Married to the Groove a few months ago looking for a DJ for your wedding and I was already booked on your date… that was it. I couldn’t help you. Even more than that, I actually struggled to know who to recommend.

Whenever anyone asked me whether I would bring other DJs onboard, the thing that would stop me was the AV equipment. There are plenty of agencies out there in Melbourne that rely on the DJs to provide their own gear, but I had gone to such great lengths, making sure my setups were so much better than the usual. I couldn’t just send a DJ out there with a trestle table, a dodgy mic, and cheap flashy lights. It would go against everything Married to the Groove is all about.

And so that’s our difference. Not only are all the DJs great DJs with years and years of experience, but we have an AV team on board so that every couple gets the best quality equipment to go with it.

Our showcase back in August was a chance to introduce the new DJs and for them to throw down a live set. We filmed it, and the live sets are up on youtube – follow the link in the story highlight.

When people ask me to describe our music vibes, I always come back to this: more dance music, less pub rock. Why? Because you booked a DJ, not a jukebox.

If you’re after “You’re the Voice” into “Khe Sanh,” “Summer of ’69” into “Horses”… Married to the Groove probably isn’t your place. That’s not DJing and honestly, a band might suit you better.

What do we love? House. Disco. RnB/Hip Hop. Dance. Indie. Tech house. Pop. Killer remixes. Weddings bring together a diverse crowd, so we often start the dance floor off with some classic disco tunes from the 70s & 80s and then let Dom Dolla, Fred Again & Fisher bring it home.

Why cultural music might be the secret to your fullest dance floor 💃🕺

Couples often ask me whether they should play cultural music, and a thousand percent they should! It can often be the only time that older family members get up to dance. This particular wedding was a fusion of Taylor and Anthony’s Greek and Latin American cultures.

We kept the Greek music in one big block right after their first dance. That way, we could catch all of their older family members while they still had plenty of energy. The Latin American party tunes were scattered throughout the rest of the night, keeping that vibe popping up again and again on the dance floor.

Those moments became some of the biggest of the night. Every generation was on the floor, dancing together and celebrating not just Anthony and Taylor, but the richness of both of their families’ histories.
