Next in Audio's 18th Sep session with Access Lab & Library is fully booked out!

Access Lab & Library (ALL) was created in 2023 by Fayen d’Evie, Lloyd Mst and Jon Tjhia to develop and nurture disability-led and artist-led access in creative settings. In this session they will present on sound and spatiality, and creative live captioning for live performances (in-person and digital), exhibitions and publishing.

Our next event is on 30th October and we have another exciting topic lined up. Keep an eye out on Heck Media's socials and the Frequency webpage for details. https://bit.ly/NIA_S2

Pictured (left to righ): Fayen d’Evie, Lloyd Mst and Jon Tjhia.

[image description: Three photographs are arranged horizontally in a narrow strip. The first is a headshot of Fayen d'Evie, bathed in a shadowy blue light, face tilted away from the camera, eyes closed, as if asleep. Patches of light illuminate her nose, forehead, and cheek. Two sequinned jewels - fixed above her natural eyes - glisten, but subtly. She wears a pleated top that undulates; her tousled hair undulates similarly, in gentle waves. Fayen is mid-frame, the hair of two other anonymous bodies peek into the frame (one hairstyle straight and long, the other, tight curls and short); the trio are resting together, back-to-back. In the second image, Lloyd sits against a dark grey wall, cropped from mid-chest, with a grey brick wall to the left and deeper shadow to the right. He looks directly at the camera, short black hair pushed left, and stubble from a few days past. His closed tangerine-tinted lips and soft brown eyes convey internal warmth, yet a serious exterior. He wears a grey workwear shirt/jacket with a black stripe; the top button open reveals a hint of a violet T-shirt. The third image is the kind of dim, silvery black and white photograph that seems almost yellow, and at the centre of it, Jon is looking out from behind a sash of light grey blur intruding across the camera’s view. His finger is pointed across his chin as if in mock thought, his forearm sprouting from the same point of origin as the unknown diagonal obstruction. Jon’s other arm juts out unseriously; his t-shirt and medium-length hair and moustache and shadow are all black, and even if they weren’t, you wouldn’t find out about it here. The background is filled by spectral, foggy looking trees; it was actually a nice sunny morning.]

Is sound the same as audio? If we can't hear audio, can we still meaningfully participate in a sound experience? If there's only audio, can we still experience visual worlds? Access Lab & Library will present a session on experimental uses of spatialised audio and live captioning to make sound more accessible and exciting in live performance, exhibitions and other media.
18th Sept, 7 - 9 PM. Register here: https://bit.ly/NIA_S2

Access Lab & Library: https://accesslab.world/

[Image description: A gold gradient triangle graphic reaches into the square image from the left, bearing white text which reads “Next in Audio. Access Lab & Library on non-standard spatialise audio and creative live captioning. Wed 18th Sep 2024. 7 PM - 9 PM. Arts Centre Melbourne. Free to register.” Beneath the gold triangle, we see part of two wide TV screens hung from the wall of a performance space, which is in near-total darkness. The screens’ backgrounds are a fresh blue and there's bold yellow text on it, kind of like the colours of the Swedish flag. The text reads: ‘High winds a-blowin’, the mighty storm is a-brewin’…’. Above it, in smaller typewriter font and square brackets, ’throaty tones of / a high-strung ballad shimmer’ span the two screens. On the bottom right of the image, in the darkness of space, is a cream Heck Media logo.]
