What happens when a village becomes a canvas?

In Nimbin, the story of its painted streets reaches back to the 1973 Aquarius Festival, when artist Vernon Treweeke proposed painting the village. A few years later, Benny Zable added a new sequence of rainbows and playful bubbles through a mural renewal project.

Today, the mural streetscape forms a core part of Nimbin’s heritage conservation area. I like the idea of art becoming part of everyday life. Something you pass on the way to somewhere else, then stop to notice.

Let’s explore Nambucca Heads.

At the mouth of the Nambucca River, this little North Coast town sits between turquoise water, rainforest pockets and the Pacific. Its name is understood to come from a Gumbaynggirr word meaning ‘entrance to waters’, and the river once carried timber and produce before roads and rail changed the town’s fortunes.

A very good place to wander slowly.

Let’s explore Yosemite’s waterfalls.

A little mountain snow, a very long geological story, and suddenly water is falling out of the sky.

These frames are from Bridalveil Fall and the creek below it. Around 190 metres of falling water, fed by a landscape that changes with the seasons. Spring brings the snowmelt; ancient glaciers helped create the drop.

A good place to pause and wonder how it all came to be.
