RANKING THE CAPTAIN AMERICA MOVIES
WORST to BEST

5 – Captain America (1990)
Cheap, even by TV movie standards, and barely resembles the character it’s adapting. Marvel was still playing it too safe with superhero films, despite DC proving the genre could work with Superman and Batman. This was not it.

4 – Brave New World
…Should’ve stuck with New World Order.
Not as bad as expected, but nowhere near as good as it should’ve been. Reshoots are obvious, editing is messy, and Mackie still lacks the presence to lead a film like this. Ford is great but barely used, The Leader is wasted, and Esposito feels tacked on. Betty and Sam? Blink and you’ll miss them.

It plays more like a Hulk movie, with discount Cap flying through it. Lifeless action, bad CGI—though the Hulk at least looked good. A real mess. But that’s just the MCU now.

3 – Civil War
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of this one. People say Cap and Tony’s views are balanced, but that’s total BS—Cap was right from the start. Zemo’s plan relies so much on convenience and coincidence that it’s laughable.

The airport fight? Visually bland and weightless. If they wanted real stakes, Vision should have actually killed Rhodey—imagine Tony dealing with that. Also, Tony roping a 16-year-old into this mess? Ridiculous. There’s fun to be had, but only if you turn your brain off completely.

2 – The First Avenger
Criminally underrated. Easily the most stylish MCU movie—it looks like a comic book come to life. Outlandish villains, cool sets, sci-fi weapons—it just oozes charm.

Cap’s origin is handled perfectly, making him a hero worth rooting for. Hugo Weaving chews the scenery in the best way. The second act montages through WWII a bit too much, and Cap weirdly pines for Peggy before they’re even a thing, but overall, this movie is just fun. Early MCU at its best—when directors actually had a vision.

1 – The Winter Soldier
Nothing else comes close. This isn’t just a great superhero movie—it’s a great action spy thriller. The best comic book movies are genre films first: The Dark Knight is a crime drama, Logan is a western road story, and Winter Soldier is an espionage thriller.

Real stakes, a personal story, a fantastic villain, an epic finale. Great action, tight choreography, and as much practical stunt work as possible. The Russos nailed it. It’s been my favorite MCU movie since release, and the way things are going, I don’t see that changing.

Score- BRONZE TAPE

Captain America-Brave New World... Firstly, New World Order was a vastly cooler name and ironically would have been the “braver” choice.

My expectations for this movie were super low. The MCU on the whole has been punching out garbage for years, Mackie doesn't scream leading man and the cost of this film and endless reshoots are always a sign of worry. That said, this movie isn’t quite as bad as I thought it would be, but it is also nowhere near as good as it could have and should have been.

A sky-high budget, numerous reshoots—each of which you can feel. The editors and writers must have had a field day trying to cobble this together with all the various versions of the film.

Sam, Isaiah and Joaquin have good banter, and their scenes as a trio are fun. That said, Mackie still hasn’t convinced me he is anything more than a second man or TV movie lead actor. He doesn’t have the shoulders to lead a film of this magnitude, in my opinion.

Harrison Ford is great casting as Thunderbolt Ross, as he brings with it star power. However, he spends ¾ of the movie “needing to get this treaty signed” and like five minutes as Red Hulk. Yep, you see everything he does in the trailers.

The discount version of "The Leader", if you can call him that, was a big waste of potential and has many flaws in his grand plan that both leave holes and make him seem stupid despite being touted as this super-intelligent being.

Esposito as 'Sidewinder' was certainly there… that’s about it. An obvious reshoot that brought little, if anything, to the movie. Betty and Sam got paid for their two minutes of screen time.

It was good to see past movies get acknowledged, and as such, it was the first movie in a while that felt like it was trying to bring cohesion to the universe again.

On the whole, it feels like the makings of a Hulk movie with discount Captain America flying through it. The action scenes feel lifeless, the green screen and volume work is terrible—which was surprising, as the Red Hulk looked great.

A real mess, but that is par for the course for the MCU nowadays.
