Huge moment for my little business - we made our first sale 🥂🫶🏼✨

When I started nursing, I struggled with the hospital-provided shift planners. They often lacked space for essential notes, making it difficult for me to organize my thoughts and confidently handle patient handovers. People told me I’d eventually get the hang of it without needing to write everything down, but I never felt that way. Handover always made me nervous, especially when I hadn’t documented important details, like why a patient was admitted or their care plan.
Feeling unprepared during bedside handovers was even more daunting, as it could impact a patient’s confidence in their care. I realized I needed a better way to keep track of key details, like patient conditions, upcoming procedures, medication schedules, and more. Being able to reference a well-organized summary of this information made a huge difference in how I managed my day and communicated with colleagues.
That’s when I created my own shift planners—documents that allowed me to track important patient info and easily refer back to it during handover. It improved my time management, reduced my stress, and made me a more efficient and confident nurse. Soon, other nurses and even students were asking for copies. I saw an opportunity to turn this into a side hustle, sharing these planners to help others navigate their shifts with less stress and more confidence. After all, a less stressed nurse means better care for patients, which is what every patient deserves.

As a bedside nurse, these are just some of the important things I NEED to know to provide care for my patients are:
🩸Why is the patient admitted?
🩸What scans/pathology has been done?
🩸What has been diagnosed? Is the patient aware of any diagnoses?
🩸Any upcoming surgeries/procedures to prepare for?
🩸Is the patient alert & orientated or confused?
🩸Has the patient got any pain or nausea?
🩸What are their vital signs? Are they stable or not? Do they have any altered met call criteria?
🩸Do they have venous or arterial access such as an IVC, PICC or CVC? How long have they had it? When is it due for change? Is the line patent?
🩸Do they have any other attachments such as an NGT, PCA or Drain Tubes?
🩸Do they have any wounds or surgical sites?
🩸If they do, when does the dressing need to be changed?
🩸What is their skin like?
🩸What diet are they on?
🩸Are they tolerating the diet well?
🩸How are they mobilising?
🩸Any mobility aids?
🩸Do they need supervision or assistance with ADLs?
🩸Are they going for any pathology or radiology appointments today that they need to fast for?
🩸Is the patient continent of both urine and faeces? If not, do they wear a pad or do they need frequent bed pan/toileting regimes?
🩸Does the patient have an IDC and what’s the output?
🩸Does the patient have a stoma and is it active?
🩸Is the patient for a full resuscitation or not? are they for met calls or not?
