The PNG Chamber of Resources & Energy has announced the appointment of Richard Kassman as its new executive director, bringing with him more than four decades of leadership experience build on accountability and governance.

“Richard Kassman is a respected leader with a proven track record of integrity, vision and commitment to Papua New Guinea,” PNG CORE president Anthony Smaré said.

The Autonomous Bougainville Government has marked a historic turning point at the Panguna mine with the formal launch of drilling for the first time in almost 40 years.

During a customary ceremony known as "Tampa Ungko", the five major Panguna landowner clans were unified in support of the project's redevelopment.

TotalEnergies has confirmed that a final investment decision on the highly-anticipated Papua LNG project remains on track for later this year.

The news was confirmed by Prime Minister James Marape following his return from high-level meetings in France with his counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

The project - a joint venture between Total, ExxonMobil and Santos Ltd - is one of the country's most significant.

TotalEnergies has confirmed a final investment decision for the Papua LNG project will be completed by the end of the year.

Ben Burger has been appointed the general manager of Misima Minerals, a 100 per cent-owned subsidiary of Ok Tedi Mining Limited.

Burger had served as general manager operations at Ok Tedi and helped deliver strong performance outcomes during his time in the role.

“The results Mr Burger and his team delivered in Operations clearly demonstrate his leadership capability. I am confident that his experience will be instrumental in leading Misima Minerals...to become an operating mine within the next two years,” Ok Tedi managing director Kedi ilimbit said.

Ben Burger has been appointed the general manager of Misima Minerals, part of a push from Ok Tedi Mining to continue to develop.

Encouraging drill results for South Pacific Metals Corp. from its Ontenu NE project has helped reinforce its emerging potential.

“This maiden drill program has achieved many milestones. We targeted and have been drilling Ontenu NE to confirm our concept that we have signatures of Kora-Judd style mineralisation on our ground – and the answer is yes,” chief executive officer Timo Jauristo said in a statement.

Geopacific Resources has hit a major production milestone at its 100 per cent-owned Woodlark gold project with the results of a definitive feasibility study.

The project on Woodlark Island in Milne Bay Province has been described as a technically robust, economically attractive long-life open pit development.

“It comes at a time of increasing international interest in resource development and infrastructure investment in PNG,” managing director Hamish Bohannan said.
