Starting out as Original Cine in 1989 renting 16mm and 35mm film equipment from a small cottage in Albert Park, The Vision House has been built on years of industry experience to become a premier boutique rental house based in Port Melbourne, Australia. Since it’s inception The Vision House has been growing every year with our inventory constantly being updated. The Vision House now offers a range

of digital cameras including the Red ONE MX, RED Epic, Alexas – both the classic and XT, Sony F5 & FS700 as well as the Phantom Miro LC320S high speed camera. Also offered is a large range of lenses including Canon L Series, Compact Primes, Zeiss Super Speeds, Zeiss Standards, Arri/Zeiss Ultra Primes, Cooke S4i, Cooke 5i and the unique Arri Shift & Tilts. In addition to prime lenses The Vision House also has numerous zoom lenses including the majority of the Angenieux Optimo range as well as various Zeiss zooms. An extensive range of support equipment is available that compliments the camera and lens inventory including tripods (from Ronford to O’Connor), Remote Heads, filters, lighting as well as a range of camera accessories. Our aim at The Vision House is to provide the best equipment possible for you based on your specific job. Our long association with the Melbourne film and commercial industry coupled with our previous production house experience have enhanced our knowledge base that allows us to offer informed advice to new or existing customers. Given the unusual hours the film industry runs, there is always a member of The Vision House on call and can be reached by calling the office number at any time. Be it a quick technical question or a last minute request from the camera department, The Vision House stands ready to respond. “What a dream to get to work in Fiji filming a TVC with some of my besties and long-time collaborators. We have done quite a number of travel jobs together and fine-tuned our travel kit with a Ronin, Alexa 35, Atlas Mercury lenses, and a small lighting/rigging kit. We were able to keep a small footprint, flight-friendly, and still capture some magic. It was certainly the road trip travelling from the south of the mainland all the way up the west coast and to the north, filming at
some amazing places and spending time with many locals along the way.”

New gear Friday…TLS Canon FD-X 10mm T3 Full Frame

Responding to the demand for an ultra-wide option to use alongside the Canon FD and K35 ranges, TLS has introduced the Canon 10mm FD-X! This unique creation covers Alexa Mini LF OG, with an image circle of 45mm.

TLS combined optical elements from the Canon 14mm EF MkI and the Angenieux Wide Angle adapter, merging both designs to achieve a truly distinctive result with the bespoke optical assembly being carefully tuned to maintain visual consistency with the rest of the Canon FD series.
The result is a 10mm lens that delivers exceptional image coverage and the signature Canon FD aesthetic; warm flares and skin tones, soft edges, and medium contrast.

Vintage Zeiss Lenses and TLS Rehousing

Zeiss cinema lenses have long been pioneers in the film industry, setting benchmarks for optical excellence and reliability that have shaped the look of modern cinematography. From their early innovations in precision glass manufacturing to the development of iconic lens lines like the Super Speeds and Ultra Primes, Zeiss consistently push the boundaries of what lenses could deliver in sharpness, contrast, and low-light performance.

Although Zeiss’ commitment to mechanical durability was valued for their time, as the lenses age, their mechanical performance is waning. This is where True Lens Services come in. By rehousing the classic vintage glass into the new precision mechanical housings, the process gives the classic optics a new lease of life for modern film sets.

An important factor in rehousing the cine lens is to keep the lens as close to its original look as possible, and by keeping the original iris of the vintage lenses, it allows filmmakers who are familiar with the original lens to feel confident in the newly rehoused lens. The rehousing process also offers us, as a rental company, a unique opportunity to create a lens set that is different from any others in the world. We took the opportunity when rehousing our Zeiss Contax AE lenses to provide the lens set with a consistent ‘ninja star’ iris design that was available in some of the early focal lengths of the AE version lenses. This not only offers a unique look to the bokeh and out of focus areas, but also keeps the lens look consistent between focal lengths.

Myer - “Give Something Special”

A great mix of performance music video and narrative storytelling for this spot for Myer, shot by DOP Michael Lincoln, and supported by an amazingly talented team. Shot using the Alexa35 and our custom TLS rehoused Canon FD-X Super Speed set and 14mm. We even pulled the A&C Power Pod out of retirement (with Barry on set as the special technician) to support the heavy camera package, which included the Skater Scope.
