Using the dryer sucks up your electricity and creates mass amounts of CO2 (and unless you live in a swamp or the Arctic there’s no real reason you can’t wait a bit of extra time for your clothes). By making sure to dry your clothes outside or on a rack inside you’ll save money, energy and give your clothes a longer life. So ditch the dryer! (eco-friendly socks from mega favourites Thought)

The woman who sewed this $3 t-shirt or singlet most likely earned just 12 cents for her work. The average garment factory worker in Bangladesh earns just 37cents an hour, no matter how many items she sews.

Oxfam research* reveals just 4% of the price of a piece of clothing sold in Australia goes toward workers’ wages in garment factories. Four percent!

Also revealed is that it would cost big business only 1% more of the retail price (3 cents for a $3 T-shirt) to pay its garment workers a wage they can live on. One percent. So why don’t they???

Greater-Good Friends, this is where you and I have the power to change things.

Join me in demanding that big clothing brands pay a living wage (that covers at least food, housing, healthcare, utilities, clothing, transport, education, with some money for emergencies) to the women who make our clothing.

I care about factory garment workers and so I’m really concerned about her not making a living wage. I would not work for less than a living wage and doubt you (or your daughters, sisters, mothers) would either. I expect your business to adjust profit margins to shoulder a minuscule 1% increase in the retail price to ensure workers can afford life’s basics. Will you make a public, time-bound commitment to pay your workers a living wage? Until then, I cannot support the exploitation of people for profit and will choose to shop elsewhere.

Like us it’s not likely you want these chemicals on your skin or in your body. However if you are a member of the human race it’s probable that at some point in your life you’ve shaved with Triclosan, washed your hair with Polysorbates and coated your lips in Lead.

As more often than not, seemingly harmless makeup, skin & hair care products are filled with carcinogens and toxic chemicals which pose serious dangers to out health. Which is why we (and quite a lot of others) recommend doing a little bit of research to ensure you’re taking care of yourself and the environment.
