Eastmint are thrilled to announce new Cold Hands Warm Heart cassette ‘day and night have equal weight’ [Eastmint-012] is out today via Bandcamp with a limited run of hand-finished cassettes, and streaming on all platforms (excluding Spotify).

Sulphur-crested cockatoos screech circling mountain ash. A cicada rave cascades over quartz and clay. Ocean swells flanked by volcanic rock beckon. ‘Day and night have equal weight’, the third release from ambient / post-folk group Cold Hands Warm Heart, is a deep listening offering as antidote to the anthropocentric condition. A sonic meditation on landscape, connection to place and reciprocity with nature, this album is in collaboration with soundscapes of Kulin Country; cicadas, eastern froglets and lyrebirds contribute to the improvisations and inspire the compositions, communing with the shared musical language of the ensemble that has intuitively formed over a decade of making sounds together.

‘Day and night have equal weight’ holds space for two projects; the first a live set recorded for Jack Rollo / Time is Away / NTS radio at Naarm based artist run space Eastmint studios, broadcast in 2024. The second is a series of remixes / reworkings of tracks from Cold Hands Warm Heart’s 2023 release ‘Luxury Bat’ by Nipaluna based duo Troth, acclaimed ambient mix masters Time is Away and pianist / composer Grace Ferguson.

Dewy vocals describe grief’s changing colours, recognising the pressure of difficult times, and wanting to bring relief. Bells and flourishes of harp further the song’s embrace, while its tender assurance rings out from one person to another - you don’t have to go through this alone

Releasing today on Eastmint records; ‘mouth mist (live for NTS)’ by Cold Hands Warm Heart from forthcoming album ‘day and night have equal weight’.

‘Mouth mist’ is an ode to seasonal signifiers and Corhanwarrabul / Sherbrooke forest in the Dandenong ranges on Kulin Country. Featuring field recordings of lyrebirds, one of the oldest song makers on earth, the band weaves between the canopy of avian song and melodies of water streaming over mossy rocks.

‘Mouth mist’ is the opening piece from a set Cold Hands Warm Heart recorded live at Eastmint Studios (Narrm/Melbourne) for NTS radio / Jack Rollo / Time Is Away, releasing on cassette via Eastmint records on 25th September. The album also includes remixes and reworkings from CHWH’s most recent LP Luxury Bat (Eastmint 010 2023) by Nipaluna based duo Troth (Altered States Tapes), London based ambient mix icons Time Is Away (Jack Rollo + Elaine Tierney) and Narrm based Pianist and composer Grace Ferguson.
