The biggest move I’ve made since quitting my job…

Sam .media and I dreamt of doing this for a long time now, and it’s taken months to get to this position. We partnered up for a new venture, focussing on storage, a member’s community and a hub for me to build SD and create all my content.

This new site in Melbourne’s South East is a sister site to the Preston location. Sam and I are here all day everyday, spending all our time building this to be the ultimate car enthusiast’s space.

Much more to come, this is only the beggining.

Comment ā€œBOXā€ to be the first to know about storage and our membership options.

Two years in. Time to take it up a notch.

Last week marked two years since I relaunched 2PJZ with 1000 followers, a goal to post every day for a year, and a dream to build a life around the cars I love. I never could have imagined where that would lead.

Three months ago I walked away from my full-time job with no safety net, no guarantee, and no plan B, to build my one-man media business and create a life where my job was to share the stories of the cars that mean so much to me. Many people in my life thought I was crazy. Honestly, some days I wondered too.

But somewhere between then and now, this crazy idea between Sam and me started taking shape.

We’ve just got the keys to a big empty box in Melbourne’s south east. A sister space to Preston. And we’re building it out from scratch, with our own hands and everything we’ve got, into the ultimate hub for car enthusiasts.

Secure storage for prestige cars, a members’ lounge, detailing studio, mechanic bay, meeting rooms, drive days and more. Sam is doing the carpentry, and I’m on the tools as well. Neither of us really knows what we’re doing yet. And that’s exactly what makes it real.

This is ours to build out. There’s no team above us and no finger-wagging overlords. Just two blokes who love cars, who looked at each other one day and said ā€˜let’s give it a go’.

It’s more expensive than we ever could have realised. It’s the scariest thing I’ve done since handing in my resignation. And I’ve not felt this level of excitement for a long time.

If you’ve been here since the start, this one’s for you. Two years ago, you were watching me nerding out about cars I found in car parks. Now you’re watching us build something we’ve wanted to exist our whole lives.

Comment ā€œBOXā€ below to be the first to know about storage, memberships, and to stay in the loop with our progress.

Things have moved fast in the last three weeks, and there’s a lot more to share soon.

Thanks for being here.

I FINALLY found one after driving 3000km!

My big goal this year is to buy a DC2 Type R in Japan. Like all car guys, the dream of finding one parked and buying it off the side of the road is so real, and I had to try my luck.

Do you think the owner will get back to me?

There’s a moment in every cheap tuned turbo car when the boost catches.

The needle hits something around three thousand and the whole car changes character. The exhaust starts to bark. The front end gets light. The little four-cylinder, which had been quietly getting on with being a car, decides it wants to be a different car entirely.

For about three seconds, in something that costs less than a lease deposit, you get to feel what people in cars twenty times the price spend most of their week trying to find.

That’s what 10K Heroes is built on. Under $10,000. Three scores. One verdict. At the end of the series, I’m buying my favourite.
Episode Three is live on the long-form channel.

The car is a 9N3-generation Volkswagen Polo GTi. 1.8-litre 20-valve turbo, five-speed manual. The kind your mum bought new in 2007 and a P-plater inherited two owners later.

Find a clean survivor like this and what you have is a platform. The 1.8T 20v is one of the most overbuilt four-cylinders VAG ever built. Same architecture as the Mk4 Golf GTi, the A4, the S3, the TT, the Leon Cupra. A forged bottom end that comfortably makes double the factory power. An aftermarket the size of a small country.

Full disclosure - I’m a VW guy. I owned a Mk4 R32. I founded the VW R Owners Club of South Australia. So I’m not new to the idea of a Volkswagen that asks something of you.

This one has the community recipe. Tune, exhaust, intake, blow-off valve, lowering springs. Around 230 horsepower in a car that weighs less than a Toyota 86. On a tight back road, in second gear, it is the cheapest thing in Australia that feels properly fast.

For the right person, one of the best ways to spend under ten grand in Australia. For the wrong person, a hobby in a hatchback.

Have I found the one in Episode Three? The film has the answer. Thanks for letting me have a spin .on_creative

Drop your Episode Four nomination in the comments.

10k Heroes: Episode 3 - VW Polo GTI 9N3

I spend a lot of time driving expensive new or hero cars, but often there’s nothing more enjoyable than driving a cheaper, slow car fast. This new series, 10K Heroes is dedicated to that. In a world where everything is expensive, having fun behind the wheel doesn’t have to be. Throughout this series, we’ll be reviewing my picks under 10k and buying my favourite at the end.

Today we feature .on_creative Polo. The first Euro car we’ve featured in this series, this presents a great buying proposition, but comes with a warning.

Is this the ultimate 10K Hero?

Let me know what I should check out next and follow for more.

Time to trade up?

The 996 Turbo has been the goal for my first Porsche for a long time. If I had the coin, honestly I’d probably do it now, but it’s still a bit of a dream given the crazy values. Driving this definitely reaffirmed the goal though. Want to drive a C4S to see how I like that vs the Turbo too… Thanks for letting me have a go in this crazy rare X50 optioned car

Honda resurrected a hero after 25 years, but was it worth the wait?

I just came back from searching for a DC2 Integra Type R in Japan while driving an S2000 and EK9 Civic Type R. So safe to say I love my Hondas. Upon arriving home, this was the first thing waiting for me.

Honestly, I didn’t expect this result, and I’m so glad when you tip it in it feels like a Honda. One of those cars that gets better the harder you drive it

Thanks for having me along to my hometown of Adelaide to enjoy the new Prelude on some of the best driving roads in the country.

It’s Not Mine - Episode 24: Aston Martin Vantage S

I’m thrown the keys to the best press cars on the market, and the number one question I get is ā€œhow long have you had it?ā€ to which I reply ā€œit’s not mineā€, hence the series’ title.

As someone who’s always wondered what the latest and greatest performance cars are like, it’s time to look back and tell you honestly if they’re worth it.

This week we feature the Vantage S.

What do you think?

First track event in the books āœ…
co x .send

Days like this are why I started this all - can’t wait to keep improving and organising more events over the next few months. Head to the SD website, grab something and get yourself on the email list to find out about them first.

Thank you everyone who came down - next time I’m definitely getting the M3 out on track.
