Three new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics have opened in Victoria as part of the Albanese Government’s plan to expand urgent care services nationwide.

Clinics in Warrnambool, Sunshine and Warragul have joined the federal network, bringing the national total to 90.

More than 1.7 million patients have used the clinics since mid-2023, including over 360,000 in Victoria.

The fully bulk-billed walk-in services aim to ease pressure on hospitals, particularly after hours.

Nine more clinics are set to open in Victoria in 2025–26.

Former judge Alan Boulton, 74, has been granted bail after allegedly displaying child abuse images to students during a university lecture at Monash University’s law chambers in February.

He faces three charges of possessing child abuse material, with police saying the images were "inadvertently displayed" during the session.

Boulton, who appeared via video link, is seeking to travel to Europe on a prepaid trip, which the court has approved.

His lawyer told the court he had previously travelled overseas during the investigation and returned without issue.

The case was adjourned until November, with police to file a brief of evidence by September 18.

Apollo the Superb Lyrebird is turning heads at Healesville Sanctuary, showing off his sound mimicry skills as breeding season gets underway.

The native bird’s winter courtship display includes an impressive mix of calls from kookaburras, magpies and parrots, along with man-made sounds like car alarms, chainsaws and ringing phones.

Visitors have also heard camera shutters, golf carts and even kiss noises – all part of his bid to attract a mate.

Keepers say the bigger the repertoire, the better the chances of impressing a female.

Victoria Police have launched Operation Consider in response to a surge in illegal and overpowered e-bikes on Melbourne roads.

The number of e-bike crashes jumped 82 per cent from 79 in 2023 to 144 in 2024, with at least 113 already recorded in 2025.

The crackdown includes foot, bike, motorcycle, and highway patrols in the CBD to enforce compliance.

Legal e-bikes must not exceed 25km/h or 250 watts, 200 watts if throttle-activated.

Overpowered models are now classed as motorcycles, requiring registration, a licence, and compliance with drug and alcohol laws.
