Coming Home

Melbourne, Australia, the town with one of the strictest lockdown restrictions worldwide, at the height of the Covid pandemic: Beth (Lara Deam), a woman who has been driven to a slight paranoia by all the negative TV- reporting on Covid as it is, receives a call from her husband Scott (Jamie Wilson) that he's coming home from work early because of a slight cough - and that sounds her alarm bells ringing, and she'll go to any length to protect herself and her daughter (Giselle Bodycoat) from whatever she thinks the pandemic might do to them ...
Now one may think what one may about the restrictions and constraints that were implemented after the Covid outbreak (and I happen to think the initial lockdowns were a reasonable cautionary measure against a threat yet unknown), but one thing's for sure, it affected people differemntly, and some more than others - and sometimes it lead to unreasonable reactions - like in this film here that's on one hand a pretty effective horror miniature, on the other though also an effective piece of social commentary that will ring true to all of us who have gone through serious lockdowns and made to feel as unsave as the film's lead character did. But what makes the film effective is its genre-savvy yet subtle directorial effort and its down-to-earth performances that emphasize on relatability - and the result is a really fine thirller that will have you thinking for sure.
