We are an independent publishing and production house that doesn't do things the traditional way. We specialise in bringing corporate histories to life and passing on organisational culture through storytelling. have experience in publishing children's books, biographies and fiction. Our team’s collective backgrounds include advertising, film making, marketing, writing, design, communications, teaching and events. It's nearly a wrap on 2026. It's been a big one, we've sent to print nearly three times the books that we did in 2024. A massive effort by the whole Hyphen team and our creatives, who we can't thank enough. Time for a well earned break!

Our absolute favourite thing about this book (apart from the great story, of course) is the texture on the cover. We thought it gave strong 'Van Gogh Haystacks' vibes, which is perfect for a family business that has been making hay for a century.

Paper embossing! A book cover can always do with a textural element and we love if we can tie it into your book content. Think swirls for a haymaking company or a leather texture for a bootmaker.

The internals of a book is made up of a book block, which starts with a half title page and ends at the imprint page. This is where all the main content of your book will live.

Terms of the trade: Slipcase! This is a protective cover that fits snugly over a book or set of books. It is both practical and aesthetic, and a great way to say milestone.

Swiss binding is where the pages of a book are glued down to the back cover only. The spine is exposed and the book opens completely flat - a perfect binding method to show off BHP's images in their 150th photo book.

From a one-man start in 1925, to a name woven into farming operations across the country, this book celebrates a century of hard work and real stories from the people who grew up with the Hannaford truck rolling into their yards. Through depressions, droughts and name changes, one thing stayed the same. The call of 'Here comes the Hannaford man' has echoed across the paddocks for a hundred years. Here's to a hundred more.

After 100 years, 4 generations and a sh*tload of boots, the Cook family is very aware that they are simply the Cooks currently in charge of the kitchen. This beautiful book makes sure that future Cooks, as well as stockists, staff and suppliers, know the story. After all, how can you know where you're going, if you don't know where you've been?

Widows and orphans are single lines of text left stranded at the top or bottom of a text column. Widows are lines that sit alone at the top; orphans are single words left behind at the bottom. For clarity and flow, always keep the family together!

Our Story

We’ve been creating amazing books for fifteen years under the name Bounce Books. A few years ago, we realised that many of our clients wanted to tell their stories via other media as well. By the time we’d researched and written their book, we knew them inside out. We already knew which were the best images and where to find more stories. Because let’s face it: there are always more stories.

And so, in 2016, we founded Hyphen. All the elements with which Bounce Books had forged its reputation remained: understanding client needs, personable interviews, thorough research, engaging writing, careful editing and proofing, beautiful photography and design, and of course, detailed project management. But now we applied them to film, exhibitions and digital applications.

In 2019, Hyphen and Bounce merged into one business – Hyphen. You’ll still see the Bounce Books logo on the spine of all our books, because after all, a company that cares so much about history can’t lose its own.

These days, no matter the best way to connect your community, we’ll help you do it. Well-told stories stand the test of time.
