Snail Discovery & Art Activity 🐌

During our early morning watering, the children discovered a snail! One child excitedly said, “The snail is so cute and cheeky!” The children watched with great curiosity as the snail munched happily on our flower plant.

To extend this moment of wonder, I provided recycled brown paper that we had collected from our online deliveries. The children worked together creatively – one child shared snail printables with everyone and suggested an idea: “Let’s crunch the brown paper to make snail shells!”

The children eagerly crunched, shaped, and glued their snail shells, adding extra details to bring their snails to life. Through this experience, they:
🐌 ♻️ Explored sustainability by reusing recycled materials.
🐌Expressed their creativity and imagination.
🐌Practiced fine motor skills through crunching and shaping paper.
🐌Connected their real-life observation of a snail with an art experience.

The result was a collection of unique and beautiful snail artworks, inspired by our garden discovery! Recycle ♻️

3D Geometry Stickers Puzzles

🔷 1. Match the Shape Puzzle
•Provide stickers of 3D shapes (cube, cuboid, cone, cylinder, sphere, pyramid, prism).
•Provide outlines or shadow silhouettes of those shapes on a puzzle board.
•Kids match the correct sticker to the outline.

🔷 2. Net to 3D Shape Puzzle
•Give stickers of 3D shape nets (like a flat cube net, cone net, etc.).
•Kids match the net sticker with the correct 3D shape sticker.

🔷 3. Properties Puzzle
•One side: stickers of 3D shapes.
•Other side: stickers showing their properties (like number of faces, edges, vertices).
•Kids connect/match the correct pairs.

🔷 4. Real-Life Object Puzzle
•Give stickers of real objects (dice, ice cream cone, ball, soda can, tent, box).
•Kids match them with the correct 3D shape (cube, cone, sphere, cylinder, pyramid, cuboid).

🔷 5. Build a Scene with Shapes
•Provide stickers of shapes (cube, cone, cylinder, pyramid).
•Kids use them to build a house, rocket, robot, or castle puzzle scene.
•Example: Cube = house walls, Cone = roof, Cylinder = chimney.

🔷 6. Sorting Puzzle Board
•Puzzle board has 3 categories:
•Shapes that roll (sphere, cylinder, cone).
•Shapes that slide (cube, cuboid, pyramid).
•Shapes that can do both.
•Kids sort stickers into the right category.

Bird Painting
We wrapped up our bird education with a DIY bird painting activity. Each child expressed their creativity in unique ways—one painted a galaxy bird, another blended sunset colors, one gave the bird a desert look, and another designed an Akedo-inspired bird. It was amazing to see how they connected their learning with imagination and art.”

Bird Craft Activity Today, children explored creativity while learning new skills through our bird craft. • We started by tracing a round-shaped object to create the bird’s body, helping children practice circle-making skills. • Next, we learned how to make a middle cut on paper to turn it into a feather shape. • During the craft, we discussed different bird body parts – eye, beak, feather, leg, tummy, and more – building children’s vocabulary and knowledge about animals. • Children then decorated their birds by sticking rhinestone eyes and feet to complete their artwork. This activity supported children’s fine motor skills, shape recognition, creativity, and language development while making learning fun.

🐦 Bird Nest Counting Activity

Today the children explored bird nests and eggs through a fun counting game.
•I provided a nest printable with numbers written on it.
•Children were given a plastic egg container with eggs.
•They were asked to place the correct number of eggs into each nest to match the number.

🌟 Learning
•Numeracy: Counting, number recognition, and one-to-one correspondence.
•Fine Motor Skills: Picking and placing eggs into the nests built hand–eye coordination.
•Science Connection: Linked to our bird theme and spring discussion about magpies and the life cycle of birds.
•Problem Solving: Children checked and self-corrected by comparing eggs with numbers.
•Language: Used words like “nest, egg, chick, number, match.”

🐦 Bird Education Activity – Spring Learning

🌿 Beautiful Bird themed learning setup 🐦
Real -life experiences of spring and magpies
With spring here, the children have noticed many magpies active in our area. We discussed how magpies protect their nests and how we can stay safe around them. This was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our environment and talk about birds, their life cycle, and safety outdoors.
On our bird-themed tuff tray,
children explored:A tree made from recycled pot and cardboard holder, with pista shells as little birds.A nest with eggs and chicks, showing the life cycle of birds.
1️⃣Counting activities – children matched numbers with eggs and chicks, learning early numeracy through play.
🥚✨ – I have combined math, science, and sensory play in one
Set up for birds – created a bird environment on a tuff tray.
Added numbers with eggs – children matched numbers with the right number of eggs (early numeracy).
Life cycle of birds – showed eggs → chicks → birds (understanding growth and change).
Little chicks – hands-on sensory element for pretend play.
🌟 Learning Outcomes
Numeracy Skills – Counting eggs (1 egg with number 1, 2 eggs with number 2, etc.) builds number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and quantity understanding.
Science & Nature – Learning about the life cycle of birds supports knowledge of living things, their needs, and changes over time.
Language Development – Talking about “egg, chick, bird, nest” introduces new vocabulary.
Creativity & Imagination – Role-playing with chicks encourages storytelling and pretend play.
Fine Motor Skills – Picking up eggs and chicks improves hand–eye coordination.
Curiosity & Respect for Nature – Helps children observe, wonder, and care about birds in real life.

🌱🐛 Exploring Nature & Caterpillar Fun! 🐛🌱

We love spending time outside, caring for our veggie garden. Today, while looking after our plants, the children discovered some caterpillars! 🐛 Their excitement was priceless as we gently transferred the caterpillars to our fennel plant, giving them a safe home. 💚

To extend our learning, we created our very own pom-pom caterpillars 🐛✨. The children carefully stuck colourful pom-poms onto popsicle sticks, designing their own little caterpillars.

Through this experience, children learned about:
✨ Caring for living things
✨ Life cycles in nature
✨ Creativity and fine motor skills

It was such a joyful day of exploring, discovering, and creating! 🌸

💛 R U OK? Day at Home Away Home FDC 💛

Today, we explored feelings and emotions through story time and hands-on creativity. 📖✨
Children learned how different feelings can be linked with colours:
❤️ Angry = Red
💛 Happy = Yellow
🩵 Sad = Blue
💚 Calm = Green

After listening to a story about feelings, the children used recycled cardboard, sticks, and rings to create their own feelings faces. This helped them express emotions, recognise how others might feel, and understand the importance of asking “Are you OK?” 💬

Through this activity, children practiced:
✨ Emotional awareness
✨ Communication and empathy
✨ Creativity with recycled materials

It was heartwarming to see little ones share their feelings, connect with colours, and listen to each other. 🥰
