Nursery Rhyme Week – Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
For Nursery Rhyme Week, we explored the classic rhyme “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.”
Children engaged in a counting and matching activity using number blocks and monkey cards to retell the rhyme. They practiced early math skills by counting monkeys, sequencing the story, and identifying numbers. We also added a pretend play setup with a doctor kit and soft toy monkeys to encourage imaginative play as children acted out “the doctor said no more monkeys jumping on the bed!”
This activity supported numeracy, literacy, and dramatic play while keeping learning fun and interactive. 🐵🩺🛏️

Remembrance Day Activity – “Lest We Forget” To honour Remembrance Day, we came together to learn about the importance of peace, respect, and remembrance. Children observed two minutes of silence to pay tribute to the brave men and women who served our country. We then watched a story about Remembrance Day, which helped children understand the meaning of poppies and why they are a symbol of remembrance. We also made poppies using loose and recycled materials, promoting creativity, sustainability, and fine motor development.

This thoughtful setup encouraged conversations about empathy, gratitude, and history in an age-appropriate way.

Remembrance Day Activity – Balloon Poppy Painting and Wreath Making

To honour Remembrance Day, children created beautiful poppy art using balloons for painting. They dipped balloons into red paint and pressed them onto paper to make poppy shapes, exploring patterns and textures through this sensory art experience.
We also made a poppy wreath using our painted flowers, promoting fine motor skills, creativity, and discussions about remembrance and peace.
Children learned that poppies are symbols of respect and remembrance for those who served our country.

We used cereal box for Wreath making
For us Every Day is recycling day.

Tomato picking fine motor skills
Children explored a green tomato plant made using play dough for leaves and red counters as tomatoes. They used tweezers to pick up the tomatoes carefully, which encouraged hand–eye coordination, concentration, and fine motor development.

Learning Experience: Life Cycle of a Tomato Plant

Children explored the life cycle of a tomato plant through hands-on observation of our own growing tomato plants. Together, we observed the changes from leaves to flowers and then to tomatoes. The children were fascinated by the process and particularly enjoyed smelling the tomato leaves, noticing their strong and fresh scent. To support healthy growth, we pruned the tomato plants, and the children used the trimmed leaves creatively to make their own tomato plant art. This experience encouraged curiosity about nature, supported sensory exploration, and deepened their understanding of plant life cycles.

👾 Monster Craft Fun!
Today, the children created their very own monsters using cardboard! Each monster turned out unique and full of personality. Some children painted their monsters bright yellow and red, while others added pom-poms for eyes and noses. They also used pipe cleaners to make fun hair, beards, and even hair accessories.

It was a wonderful creative experience that encouraged imagination, fine motor skills, and self-expression. The children were so proud of their funny, friendly monsters! 💛🎨
