This week marks the 10 year milestone for me as a fully freelance Camera Op / DoP / Videographer! Of course I’ve done it a few years longer than that but it was back in January 2015 that I finished up working at Lemac Film and Digital and committed fully to the freelance life.

A massive thank you to everyone I’ve worked with over the years- my favourite part of this job has been all the amazing people I’ve met on this journey, combined with the diversity of work from one day to the next. Thank you so much and wishing everyone a successful 2025 and beyond! 🙏😄🎉

Eighteen months ago I received a phone call from Wendy Mason, telling me the story of Allan Godfrey’s World War II journey and asking if I wanted to help her and journalist Patrick Carlyon capture Allan’s and other veteran and volunteer stories as part of a video project for the Caroline Springs RSL Sub-Branch.

That evolved into the 55-minute documentary, Those Who Serve. Filming days throughout the last year and half. Countless editing hours. Poring through Australian War Memorial archives and other sources of historical footage and photos as we pieced it all together, doing our best to honour the stories we were told.

It was a huge canvas but it was all connected - and for me it was a genuine privilege to work on this project over that whole time (and I’m not quite done yet!)

On Saturday 15th June we had the launch of Those Who Serve at Southern Cross Grammar, attended by around 200 guests.

The response was incredible, I’m quite overwhelmed by all the kind words and also the level of care that was put into the event itself. It wasn’t just a screening- it was a celebration. I was delighted that Sarah and a few family members were able to join me for this special day, it won’t be one that I forget anytime soon.

Super excited to be adding the Sony FX6 into my kit, replacing the Canon C200. I’ve been shooting on this for the past month (since returning home) and I’m stoked with both the pictures and the performance of it so far.

The big trip continues as Sair and I are about to leave Corsica after three weeks here. It’s a stunning place.

We stayed for the first half in a small village in the Bavella mountains which has an awesome combo of single pitch sport climbing on lower cliffs and multipitch trad on the larger towers that surround them.

Second half was in the coastal village of Lumio where we caught up with friends from the UK Marti and Debbie, explored nearby climbing areas and also ventured further afield to climb in Bastia and Restonica Valley.

Overall the climbing here is incredible, mostly granite but abundant in all styles, my favourite being the ‘tafoni’ which is highly featured, weathered rock that lends itself to steep and gymnastic climbing on very different terrain than we’re accustomed to, was a lot of fun!

Off to Sardinia next!

Hard to believe it’s been 15 years since I was last in Chamonix! After starting the trip in Paris, we arrived here a few days ago and have been enjoying the local walking and climbing. We have two weeks here before venturing on to Corsica 😊🏔🥐🇫🇷

Using lockdown again to create some more tutorial / gear videos, this is about my workflow for shooting and editing with Canon Cinema Raw Light.

Canon Cinema Raw Light hasn't always been the easiest format to work with, but with native NLE support and camera-generated proxies it's a much simpler and f...

Over the years I’ve often wished I had two of the exact same camera for all those interviews and multicam shoots for perfect and easy colour matching. Well now I do! Have just added a second Canon C200 to the kit.

At the same time, I’ve also bought a Miller Compass CX8 head and paired it with my trusty Sachtler carbon fibre legs. I’m super impressed by how precise the counterbalance on this is and the smooth, repeatable movement across 5 drag settings. I do love a good pan! 🤣
