Glucocorticoids taken for less than 3–4 weeks rarely cause adrenal insufficiency and can be abruptly stopped for most patients. When taken for longer than 3–4 weeks, they can usually be rapidly reduced to a physiological dose – 5 mg of prednisolone or equivalent – then more gradually tapered as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis recovers. The requirement for dual labelling of several medicines has ended and they will now transition to sole labelling with their new approved name. For example, ‘hydroxycarbamide (hydroxyurea)’ will transition to ‘hydroxycarbamide’. This is part of a process that started in 2016 that led to many medicine ingredient names changing to be consistent with International Nonproprietary Names (INNs). A limited number of medicines will continue to be dual labelled, including ‘adrenaline (epinephrine)’. Read more: https://bit.ly/3I0oMP6
