The most powerful stories aren't told for people—they're told by them.

Visiting Darwin years ago, I spent time at Bagot community and in healthcare facilities where nurses shared how colonialism's introduction of certain foods and drinks had led to widespread health issues requiring permanent dialysis.

Later, in a "dry community," I witnessed local Elders working directly with health practitioners to educate residents on various services.

My greatest regret? Not capturing these stories on film. But this experience taught me something crucial: authentic impact comes not from speaking for others, but from creating spaces where people can tell their own stories—particularly when addressing complex challenges like those highlighted on .

The most powerful stories aren't told for people—they're told by them. This principle guides my work helping purpose-driven organisations amplify authentic voices that drive real understanding and action.

When purpose-led organisations struggle to communicate, their impact becomes lost in the noise.

I led a homelessness advocacy campaign, capturing real stories from lived experiences.

The result? Over 100,000+ views in a month—right as Australia’s mental health Royal Commission unfolded. This impact campaign was a success in advocating the complexities of homelessness.

This wasn't about flashy production—it was about creating a safe space for real stories to be shared, developing hero videos with key soundbites, and ensuring the general public saw their key messaging alongside the messaging of the Royal Commission of our mental health system.

The power was in the storytelling approach:

➡ Filming real testimonials in a comfortable (safe) studio setting for participants to relay authenticity
️➡ Then strategically deploy these across multiple platforms to reach the right audiences.

Seeing how these stories sparked new conversations and shifted perceptions around homelessness and complex needs reinforced my belief in strategic storytelling.

My three-part storytelling consultation helps purpose-driven organisations:

1️⃣ Clarify key messaging that resonates with your specific audience
2️⃣ Identify and leverage existing resources you already have
3️⃣ Develop strategies that amplify impact without requiring massive budgets

Your investment will give you back:

1️⃣ A greater awareness of how your purpose is seen on screen
2️⃣ Stronger engagement with your key advocacies
3️⃣ Increased connection to your cause

I'm really proud of this project that we did with the Flow Designs Australia team. Over two days of filming we made two manufacturing process videos on their key products, Splitters and Brackets.

One of the great loves of mine creating videos for a living, is learning things I wouldn't have in other lines of work. We sat with Chris and Ben over numerous meetings to not only understand their market offering but also their why. Flow commented 10 years last year and I felt it was really important to take stock of this in their answers. We ended up throwing in an extra video with their reflections on how they started.

Please take a watch of Chris speaking about their unique offering to the World from the humble suburb of Bayswater, Melbourne

One of the outcomes that is part of the recommendations in the Frame for Change Workshop is creating a content library. It’s one of the most effective ways to make your video content work harder for you, without stretching your budget over multiple production stints.

What is it you ask? A content library is essentially a collection of high-quality video assets—interviews, footage, and more—that can be repurposed across various needs. Think of it as building a toolkit for your storytelling. With some thoughtful planning, you can create a mix of hero videos 🎬 (your flagship pieces) and smaller clips for social media, advocacy, or grant applications.

I know the challenges nonprofits face when it comes to content creation. Your needs change as time progresses but the allocation of funds may not always be readily available to get your production team out again. Producing videos once a year might feel like a stretch, so maximizing that effort is important. 💡

Here’s how repurposing content can help:

✨ An interview: That heartfelt conversation with a program participant could be used in a hero video and adapted as part of a grant application or advocacy piece.

🎥 Footage of facilities (b-roll): A single day of shooting your programs or spaces can give you material for multiple videos, saving you from needing another production team visit.

Pre-planning makes all the difference. 📝 By mapping out your objectives early, you can work with a production team to capture everything you need in one go. This approach reduces costs while giving you a versatile library of content to draw from all in the future.

The workshop is designed to help nonprofits like yours plan strategically. One of the key deliverables is a roadmap 📍—a step-by-step guide that prioritises your needs, maximizes your resources, and ensures your message reaches the right audience.

Creating a library of content isn’t just about saving money—it’s about telling your story in ways that resonate, time and time again. ❤️

🎬 What Does a Producer Do?

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to make your video project come to life? Gisele Kieffer and I talk about the key responsibilities of a producer and how we ensure every production runs smoothly from start to finish. Here’s a quick breakdown:

1. Site Recce – We scout locations to evaluate lighting, sound, and logistics, ensuring we capture the best footage.

2. Runsheets – A detailed timeline is created, outlining every stage of the shoot, keeping the project on track.

3. Resourcing Crew and Equipment – From camera operators to lighting techs, we source and manage the right team and equipment for the job.

4. Shot Coverage – We carefully plan every shot to tell your story in the most impactful way, capturing all the right angles.

If you’re looking to film your manufacturing process or showcase a unique methodology, our team at Jumbo Productions will bring the smarts in pre production to make great content.

We're interested in hearing from you if this fits your needs! drop a message anytime.
