Sneak preview of our K2 zine, which was twice delayed by various kinds of turbulence, but which will finally achieve full physical manifestation in early 2021. It's shaping up to be a wider-ranging and much darker affair than our first publication.

BANGKOK — When the VVIPs gathered to applaud Bangkok’s latest monument to achievement Monday night, it’s unlikely they gave thanks to the thousands of men and women who raised it 314 meters into the sky.

Building site graffiti scrawled by a construction worker in a Bangkok office tower block. This image is taken from Dhyan Ho's upcoming photo book titled: 'The Stones of Krung Thep', which will be published by Khlong Press.

The text in the photograph reads: "กูมีย้า" / "I have drugs" (misspelt). Much of the graffiti written on the walls of construction sites like this is used as a means of communication between workers to buy and sell 'yaba' (methamphetamine-based pills), often used by manual labourers in Southeast and East Asia to work longer hours.

A short update for our readers and supporters: Khlong 2 is temporarily on hold due to the current political situation in certain SEA countries. In short, and without going too far into it, there are a couple of pieces we can't publish without the possibility of putting one or two contributors at danger of prosecution. We're also unwilling to self-censor because f**k that. This decision leaves us at a bit of a stalemate. We'll be weighing up our options and hope to release the second book a little later in the year, even if it means selling online rather than in stores.

In the meantime, we'll soon be publishing a brilliant photo essay called The Stones of Krung Thep by Dhyan Ho.

Dhanainun Dhanarachwattana, whose photographic meditations on death and decay will feature in the upcoming edition of Khlong, is hosting a solo exhibition at JAM. Dhanainun is a remarkable photographer with a highly idiosyncratic, philosophical take on urban sprawl and decay. He's also a damn good writer.

The exhibition opens on September 25th and runs until October 23rd. We strongly urge you to check this one out.

We habitually pursue goals and pleasures to suit what is best for us and to enrich our happiness. When one’s goal has been achieved, a victorious award is announced just like that of a general who returns victorious from war and is named a national hero. However, will this vanity last long? The answ…
