Michael Christo and Guilian Balzano left it all in the ring, trading techniques and testing each other's resolve over three competitive rounds. When the final bell sounded, it was Michael Christo who earned the judges' decision and took home the points victory.

Before Wayne Parr became one of Australia's greatest Muay Thai champions, he was involved in some unforgettable wars. One of those battles came against the dangerous Chris Allen in the late 90s.

Fresh off successful campaigns in Thailand and Japan, Parr returned home carrying a growing reputation as one of Australia's toughest Muay Thai fighters. Standing opposite him was Manchester-born Chris Allen, representing the famous Fitzroy All-Stars Gym in Melbourne.

🥊 From the opening bell, Allen's elbows were causing damage. Parr was cut early, and by Round 3, referee Bryce Birtwistle looked close to stopping the contest. But Parr, showing the heart that would later make him a legend, refused to quit and begged for the fight to continue.

💥 The war raged on until Round 5, when Allen landed a perfectly timed uppercut elbow that opened Parr up once again, forcing the stoppage.

🔥 CHRIS ALLEN
A tough English-born fighter who built a strong reputation on the Australian Muay Thai scene. Fighting out of Fitzroy All-Stars, Allen was known for his aggression, toughness, and devastating elbow attacks. This victory over Parr remains one of the standout moments of his career.

🏆 WAYNE PARR
A true Australian combat sports icon. "John Wayne" Parr would go on to become a multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion, fighting elite opponents across Thailand, Japan, Europe, and Australia. With over 100 professional fights, he helped put Australian Muay Thai on the world stage and inspired an entire generation of fighters.

Australian fighter Darren Berry crossed the Tasman to take on New Zealand powerhouse Paula Mataele in a scheduled 5-round heavyweight kickboxing showdown.

The fight was expected to be a war... but Paula Mataele had other plans! 💥

In a stunning display of power, Mataele scored a devastating 1st Round KO, giving New Zealand a huge victory in one of the most memorable Australia vs New Zealand matchups of the era. 👊

Paula Mataele built a reputation as one of New Zealand's toughest heavyweight kickboxers, feared for his aggressive style and knockout power.

Darren Berry represented the hard-nosed Australian kickboxing scene, travelling overseas to test himself against the best fighters New Zealand had to offer.

Back in October 1992, on a Tuesday night at the famous Fitenite promotion in Heidelberg, Victoria, two young fighters stepped into the ring looking to make their mark.

What followed was a tough, action-packed kickboxing battle between two hungry competitors who refused to give an inch. Both fighters gave everything they had, pushing each other to the limit over the distance.

When the final bell rang, the judges couldn't separate them...

What makes this fight even more special is that both men would later go on to compete for State Titles, proving this early-career clash featured two fighters destined for bigger things.

In a brutal 5-round world title battle, Australia's Daniel "The Rock" Dawson faced the dangerous Prince Amir in a clash that showcased elite kickboxing at its very best. When the final bell sounded, Dawson had done enough to claim world championship glory and further cement his place among Australia's greatest combat sports athletes.

Daniel Dawson is widely regarded as one of the finest fighters Australia has ever produced. A multiple-time world champion across Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Boxing, Dawson built a reputation for devastating power, technical brilliance, and an iron will. Throughout his incredible career, he shared the ring with elite names from around the world and became one of the few Australians to achieve world-title success across multiple combat sports.

PRINCE AMIR
Prince Amir was a highly respected international contender known for his toughness, skill, and determination. Representing Iran on the world stage, he pushed champions to their limits and proved on this night why he belonged among the sport's elite. Against Dawson, Amir showed incredible heart and gave fans a world-title battle they still talk about today.

Some fights are remembered for the knockout. Others are remembered for the mystery.

Before Gurkan Ozkan became one of Australia's most successful kickboxers, he was building a reputation as a devastating finisher. In this bout, Gurkan scored a crushing 1st Round KO over a Queensland fighter known only as "Greg."

Gurkan would go on to become a true Australian kickboxing icon 🏆. A multiple-time World Champion and Hall of Fame inductee, he fought some of the biggest names of his era and represented Australia on the world stage. Known for his explosive power, relentless pressure, and technical brilliance, Gurkan shared the ring with many other Australian and international stars throughout an incredible career.

But what about Greg? 🤔

That's where the Fight Rewind community comes in.

Records suggest Greg was from Queensland, now in Parramatta, but we're struggling to confirm his surname. Was it Greg Parish? Greg Paris? Or someone else entirely?

In 1992, two young fighters stepped into the ring with little experience but plenty of heart.

Mark McCloy was making his kickboxing debut, while Anthony "Hitman" Vella was having just his 2nd fight. Neither man knew it at the time, but they were about to put on a battle that would end in a hard-fought DRAW and become part of Australian kickboxing history.

👊 ANTHONY "HITMAN" VELLA
After this fight, Anthony's career took off. He developed the relentless pressure-fighting style that became his trademark, combined with dangerous grappling skills and a spinning back fist that caught many opponents by surprise.
Just three years later, he was crowned Blitz Magazine's Kickboxer of the Year (1995) and went on to face some of Australia's toughest and most respected fighters, earning his place among the greats of the 90s era.

👊 MARK McCLOY
Making his debut against a future Hall of Fame fighter, Mark showed incredible toughness and potential from the very beginning. Holding his own in his very first bout, he proved he belonged in the ring and helped create a memorable contest that fans still talk about today.
