Is there a recordkeeping crisis in the Australian Federal Government?

The Records and Information Management Practitioners Alliance (RIMPA) recently penned an open letter to the Prime Minister outlining concerns that Australian Federal Government agencies are deficient in recordkeeping.

With a seemingly overreliance on increasing data storage at the expense of properly managing the data there is a risk that agencies risk becoming ‘bloated’ because of hoarding of data and failing to delete ‘junk’ data.

Well known IT magazine, IT Wire recently interviewed our Brolly CTO Ali Nazemian about how we turned to Aiven in the early days of the product to ensure we could deliver a platform that would meet the unique requirements of social media archiving.

This includes ensuring that the platform can scale almost instantaneously when social media volumes spike, say during a storm or bush fire event, but also make sure that no social media record is missed because as Ali said “you don't know what kind of record can go viral,” he explained. “You always need to make sure each record is treated as if the entire business depends on it.”
