VBTR is a non-profit, volunteer run organisation in, but not exclusive to, Victoria Australia. We are dedicated to rescuing bull terriers left homeless for whatever reason. We strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organisations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless bully’s. We place dogs in loving, responsible, comm

itted permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption/fostering process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a bull terrier into their homes and lives. VBTR will continue to hold their famous Bully day outs and fundraising activities which includes auctions, raffles, functions. We welcome you to join us in helping to provide a better life for the Bully's in need. This week we celebrated 2 very special birthdays of Forever Fosters Bess and Ozzie!

🎈These two gorgeous grey muzzlers share the same birthday!
On Monday 15th June our sweet πŸ’žBess turned 12 and darling 🩡Ozzie turned 11 years young!

πŸŒŸπŸ™ŒπŸ» As well as celebrating these two special bullies, we’d also like to thank their forever foster families; Graeme & Debby for Bess, and Karen for Ozzie, along with their respective bully buddies Greer and Julie for helping these grey muzzlers enjoy the very best golden years!

AND, a huge shout out to our wonderful 🩢Grey Muzzle Club members for allowing us to continue a program that supports the financial cost of our older bullies for life 🫢🏼

β™₯️ We are so incredibly fortunate at VBTR to have a fundraising team that never sleeps, and so many amazing supporters that help cover a lot of our smaller expenses. (Yes even your $1, $2, $5 a week makes an incredible difference πŸ™πŸΌπŸ₯Ή)

However, sometimes we are hit HARD financially, and this past couple weeks has been no exception 🫣.

πŸ“’πŸ†˜ It’s right NOW that we have to call for extra help in order to be able to continue providing exceptional care for so many vulnerable bullies, otherwise there will come a time where we simply have to say β€œI’m sorry, but we can’t save this one” πŸ’”

To give you just a glimpse, here is what just 4 dogs cost us last week…….

β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή REBEL β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή ($7,006)
Rebel underwent a surgery called a Modified Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (mTPLO).
This is a β€˜dynamic stabilising procedure’ of the stifle (knee) for dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease or rupture and a medial patella luxation.
Rebel is believed to have lived with this very painful condition for many years before landing with us πŸ˜”πŸ’”
The procedure involved cutting the tibia (shin bone) and rotating it such that the knee is no longer slipping/dislocating when walking or running.

Sweet Forever Foster Buster last week had to have an echocardiogram, followed by a procedure to remove a large hanging mass from his side, along with multiple biopsies of lumps on his tummy (results pending).
This is on top of previous visits to skin specialists and ongoing vet trips and care as a forever foster dog.

β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή TERRANCE β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή ($972)
Other than the normal β€œbully skin issues”, darling Terrance came into rescue with a grade 3/4 (severe) periodontal disease. This involves heavy tartar build-up, deep bacterial pockets and often infected teeth. Highly painful! πŸ₯Ί
Last week we had him sedated for a full clean, x-rays and multiple extractions.

β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή LENNY β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸΎβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή ($4,000+ …….and growing by the day)
Lenny has been in our care for over 8 months!
People begged and pleaded with us to save him from a rural NSW pound, and since then we have had only 2 applications (unfortunately not suitable) πŸ˜”
We recently invested in an extensive board and train program to teach him the best manners…. But every day that we do not find him a home, is now costing us more money to board him. We do not have shelters of our own and we rely on a foster network.

Introducing SASSY, a 4 year old, desexed, English Bull Terrier πŸ’•

Sassy is a happy and confident girl who would suit a family with or without children. She is well versed in sit, drop and shake and is a fast learner - especially where food is involved 🀭 Sassy is crate trained and will seek it out to relax and sleep at night. She is used to time alone, so may suit a full time worker with a suitable space.

Sassy would love a family who will take her on a daily walk, extended outdoor adventures πŸ₯Ύ and will invest time in teaching her new skills and tricks.

πŸ‘‰ WE NEED TO HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION

VBTR is about Bull Terriers. They’re in our name. They’re in our hearts. Their rescue is our purpose and agenda πŸ’•

But VBTR is also about dogs 🐾 Dogs like Hollie, Evie, Missy G, Pickles and Dexter, to name a few. None purebred Bull Terriers, but all deserving of the kind and loving forever homes they found thanks to their families and our wonderful VBTR community.

ALL deserving. JUST. LIKE. LENNY.

VBTR stood up for Lenny when no one else was able to. Shelters and rescues are overflowing and without this save, Lenny’s fate was extremely uncertain. We felt confident we would be able to find him his forever, just as we have for those dogs that came before him. But it’s been almost 8 months. 8 months and in that time, we’ve had only 2, yes just 2, applications for him. Unfortunately, neither were suitable.

We’ve given Lenny everything we can: a loving foster carer, quality food and veterinary care, training guidance and assessment, and now a board and train program to really shape his manners and confidence. We’ve shared his profile again and again, not just with our VBTR followers, but on rescue platforms, adoption groups, community pages across social media – but we receive no applications, no enquiries, nothing. We’ve talked and fretted, brainstormed and worried and tried our best to come up with a plan for Lenny at the completion of his training program, but we’re at a loss. We feel like we are failing πŸ˜”

Lenny’s training program ends on June 10th. Without someone stepping up for him, he will remain in boarding. This isn’t what we want for Lenny. His trainers and the boarding kennel staff love and care for him, but it’s no substitute for a family of his very own. Boarding is expensive πŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ Costs invested in boarding limit our resources to continue saving other dogs – this is the sad reality.

So, we are asking all of you to please, think carefully πŸ€” Do you have room in your home and your heart for Lenny? Do you know someone else in need of a loving companion? Are you part of a facebook group or do you have a large platform where you can share Lenny’s profile? Can you print an adoption profile and put it up in your workplace or on a community noticeboard? Even if every single follower of our VBTR socials shared Lenny’s profile that would equal huge exposure.

A reminder, Lenny is looking for a 🏑 that:

βœ… Must be available for a 3hr handover to learn the β€œtraining language”. This is essential for LENNY’s further development

βœ… Is a single or adult only home in a quiet environment (no children)

βœ… Is committed to working with us to ensure LENNY continues to succeed

πŸ’” It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts, that we share with you that our sweet forever foster (and Grey Muzzler) Floki has crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈πŸͺ½

3 short years ago, cheeky boy Floki found his way into VBTR's care and into the loving arms of his wonderful forever foster parents Rob & Jess.
This is where Floki would live the bully dream as the centre of Rob & Jess’s world πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ A local beach dude, Floki loved his sandy beach walks and watching sunsets over the water.
He loved riding in the car, living a life of fun and adventure including many bush walks. Floki was always included in Rob & Jess’s active lifestyle πŸš—πŸŒ³

Floki was known for his β€˜witching hour’ where he would go crazy before or after dinner. He loved his food and would get very vocal if it was late 🀭

β™₯️ Darling Floki stole many hearts within our VBTR family, enjoying regular catch ups with his favourite people and bully gang of Missy, Sasha, Bruce and Daisy 🐾

We recently received the devastating news that our sweet Floki was diagnosed with Lymphoma in its latest stages πŸ’”
Not knowing how long they had with their precious boy, Rob & Jess made sure he was extra spoiled and that he only knew love until the very end.

Last week, and just shy of his 11th birthday, Floki was given his wings πŸͺ½πŸŒˆ

Floki will be terribly missed by so many but most of all his doting family; Rob & Jess.
Through our tears and heartbreak, we at VBTR will be forever grateful that he was lucky to live 3 of the most amazing years being loved by them β™₯️🐾
