Still in the “B” section of my vinyl collection... Delaney Bramlett was without a doubt one of the greatest Blue Eyed Soul singers ever and also an exceptional guitarist/arranger/producer.
back in 2006 I was fortunate enough to record four songs for him in his home studio on the outskirts of LA.
I'm still a little disappointed at the fact I never got to do a final mix of the recordings (long story) and I heard from a very reliable source that the mixes ended up being a let down. In fact she told me straight up when I asked, (I'm paraphrasing) 'The mixes are not good Rokk, you would have down a much better job!”
Delaney was not in great shape health wise at the time and sadly passed away 2 years later, because of his health issues the recording sessions were kept relatively short but he had lost none of his musical mastery. The up side of the short sessions is that I got to spend many hours with this legend sitting on the front porch of his ranch style home listening to his stories, or we would go inside, listen to records and bond over common musical tastes (both superstars & more obscure).
U remember a time ho wanted to surprise me by playing me one of his current favourites (that he assumed I'd never heard of), After he started playing the CD he was very impressed that I not only knew who Ramsay Midwood was but I had my own copy, we listened and talked about the uncomplicated raw magic of that recording.
I won't bother writing about the achievements, history or incredible list of artists Delaney wrote songs with, performed with, produced or influenced; it could fill a book, look it up if you are curious. Ill just drop three names to peek you curiosity: George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix & Eric Clapton...
