MILDURA SHOW IN VOLUNTEER CRISIS

Mildura Show Committee has announced that the 2024 show will be the last if more volunteers don’t come onboard.

The Mildura Show is the longest running annual event held the district, and third largest show behind Melbourne and Geelong.

The annual event brings economic benefits to the region, including to the many community groups who use the event as a major fundraiser.

Local businesses also benefit with the area well regarded amongst the Showmen’s Guild Members, who schedule repairs and maintenance to vehicles and rides whilst in Mildura.

But the lack of volunteers and committee members will be the end of the Mildura Show. Mildura Show Coordinator, Jo Rodda has indicated that she is stepping away from the role at
the end of 2024 as the role has become increasingly more difficult without the support of volunteers.

“The event is economically sustainable but cannot continue without volunteer support.” Rodda said.

“Re-engaging volunteers post COVID is a challenge for every organisation who rely on volunteers. Volunteers are the life blood of community events, and it is simply not possible
to continue without greater volunteer support.”

Rodda stated that the dwindling committee of thirteen members can’t put on such a large-scale event.

“It was decided that the 2024 event would be the last unless significant numbers of volunteers could be found to assist with the mammoth task of bringing the event to life each year.”

At the AGM, Emma Box was elected as the President of the Society. Paulette Giles & Allegra Bottrell-Thorburn as Vice Presidents, Jasmine Ash as Junior Vice President. Natalie Hancock retained the position of Past President.

Planning is well underway for the 2024 Mildura Show which will be held over 2.5 days, October 17th to 19th 2024 at the Mildura Recreation Reserve.

For the show to continue in future years, Show Coordinator Jo Rodda urges member of the community to email [email protected] to volunteer time to keep the show alive.
