Tasmania’s West Coast Wilderness Railway has been accepted into Tourism Australia’s Cultural Attractions of Australia collective.

Built in the 1890s to transport copper and gold, the Queenstown-to-Strahan line is now recognised as one of the nation’s most significant heritage experiences.

Transport Minister Kerry Vincent said the honour followed a record-breaking summer, while Tourism Minister Jane Howlett highlighted its economic boost for the West Coast.

Tourism Industry Council CEO Amy Hills said the railway is a unique drawcard that lures visitors west and must continue to receive strong government support.
