Please see below an update regarding the status of our sporting facilities following wet weather. 👇

❌ Narrabri ovals: Due to wet conditions, *all* ovals in Narrabri will remain CLOSED tomorrow (Saturday, 30 May).
❌ Jubilee Oval, Boggabri: CLOSED (due to overnight rain) - expected to re-open tomorrow (30 May).
❌ Cook Oval, Wee Waa: CLOSED until next week.

Council will continue to assess the ovals and provide an update regarding their status.

We encourage the use of Live Traffic to stay up-to-date on the latest road closures, as roads may suddenly close upon assessment.

UPDATE 1:06PM FRI: The Newell Highway has reopened to all vehicles between Moree and the Queensland border.

⛔️🌧️ NEWELL HIGHWAY CLOSED - FLOODING

The Newell Highway is now closed to all vehicles between Moree and the Queensland Border due to flooding.

That section of the highway had been closed to light vehicles only.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

↪️ To travel between Moree and Goondiwindi, motorists can use Carnarvon Highway and Barwon Highway instead. This diversion is suitable for all vehicles and will add approximately three hours travel time.

Motorists are reminded to never drive through floodwaters.

From NSW SES Moree Unit

⚠️⚠️ Weather Update ⚠️⚠️
We have seen over 60mm of rain fall over the last 24hrs and more is predicted later today, with the chance of thunderstorms, and the possibility of severe thunderstorms.

The following roads have been impacted ;
- Back Pally Rd between Newell Highway and Stanester Rd
- Wongabindie Rd between Back Pally Rd and Croppa Moree Rd
- Carnarvon Highway north of Moree towards Mungindi
- We have reports of flooding through some low lying causeways around the Moree area

And the Newell Highway is closed for light vehicles only.

Heavy vehicles are able to travel through under caution.

Further to the above roads, please also remember that all unsealed roads in the area have been impacted by this rainfall.

Please use live traffic to plan your trip and find alternate routes to get to your destination.

The NSW SES members are ready to help if required, but we are asking everyone in the community to please make smart choices on the road, drive to the conditions and never enter flooded roads or causeways.

🌩️ STORM WARNING 🌩️

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Tamworth, Gunnedah, Warialda, Barraba, Quirindi and Mullaley.

For emergency help in flood and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.
