New This Week: Behölder - Tower Of The Broken God (Black Lion Records) (U.S.A)

Not content with releasing an incredible debut "In The Temple Of The Tyrant" earlier this year, Beholder now build on that success with "Tower Of The Broken God". Comprised of just two songs, the title track and an impressive cover of "The Dungeons Are Calling" by Savatage, it once again shows them as a musical force to behold and one can only hope that they keep the epic doom coming, such is its glory.

New This Week: Coroner - Dissonance Theory (Century Media Records) (Switzerland)

It has been over three decades since Coroner released "Grin" so it is fair to say that their return it long overdue and their sixth album "Dissonance Theory" arrives with some degree of expectation. For those familiar with their musical evolution it should come as no surprise that they continue to move forward and, while it sounds as only they can, it brings their technical thrash into the present day, resulting in a very welcome return and one of the finest albums of the year.

New This Week: Hammerfilosofi - Signum (Osmose Productions) (International)

Having released their debut "The Desolate One" two years ago, Hammerfilosofi have now signed with Osmose Productions for the follow up "Signum" ("Sign") and it proves to be a daunting opus to behold. Recorded at Endarker Studio, this is black metal with an almost overwhelming intensity yet, to their eternal credit, they also incorporate enough variety and nuance into the aural maelstrom to ensure that it can deliver their dark sermons with force while always remaining engaging throughout.

New This Week: Orgrel - The Abyssal Terror (Purity-Through-Fire) (Italy)

Four years after their debut "Red Dragon's Invocation", the power-trio that is Orgrel return with their impressive second album "The Abyssal Terror". Once again, the intriguing cover artwork offers an abstract indication of what to expect however, musically, their black metal is far more direct and incisive than it might suggest, electing to stay true to the tenets of the genre while focusing on the depths of their song writing itself to make their black mark.

The Black Arts - 29th October 2025

Unfortunately, Cradle Of Filth have been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons but this week we are looking back at their fourth album "Midian", released in October 2000. New This Week: Abominator - The Fire Brethren (HELLS HEADBANGERS) (Australia)

Even though it has been a decade since Abominator released their last album, their reputation has been well established by now, if not their sixth opus "The Fire Brethren" offers a stark reminder. Once again they remain true to the blackened death metal that has been the mainstay of their sound since their inception and there is no lessening of the vitriolic views they have always expressed, making it a welcome, albeit daunting, return from a band that know exactly what they are capable of.

New This Week: Heteropsy - Embalming (Caligari Records) (Japan)

Since forming five years ago, Heteropsy have focused on creating a series of shorter releases before signing with Caligari Records for the release of their debut "Embalming". It was certainly time well spent as it arrives fully formed, though their doom/death is anything but refined as it is a gritty, murky sound that somehow enhances what they have created, resulting in an album that is not for the faint of heart.

New This Week: Malakhim - And In Our Hearts The Devil Sings (Iron Bonehead Productions) (Sweden)

With their second album "And In Our Hearts The Devil Sings", Malakhim continue down the left hand path and build on the strengths of their debut "Theion" released four years ago. It is not that their black metal offers many surprises for the initiated, their strength lies in the conviction with which they deliver their harsh sermons and the vibrancy of their compositions, making it another worthy addition to the dark arts.

New This Week: Sabaton - Legends (Better Noise Music) (Sweden)

A band that probably needs little introduction by now, as the title of their eleventh album "Legends" suggests, Sabaton are delving back to cover legendary figures across history. Musically, it simply continues the anthemic power metal on which they have already built their name making it highly likely to please the converted yet unlikely to convert those who have not travelled back in time with them by now.

The Black Arts - 22nd October 2025

While much has been said about the most recent Helloween album "Giants And Monsters", and rightfully so, this week we are looking back to their tenth album "The Dark Ride" that was released in October 2000. Helloween - The Dark Ride (Nuclear Blast)

Carach Angren - The Cult Of Kariba (Season of Mist)

New This Week: Carach Angren - The Cult Of Kariba (Season of Mist) (Netherlands)

Each release from Carach Angren is a horror themed adventure and that remains true with their latest effort, "The Cult Of Kariba", as they once again tell a sinister tale. Even though it is only comprised of five songs, it expands on the mythos they originally created on their debut, "Lammendam", through their distinctive interpretation of symphonic black metal, a fervent realm where creepy drama and theatrics are the norm.
