St. Teresa of Calcutta encourages us, "Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."
The longing to grow and glow spiritually dwells deep in most hearts. True spiritual life is not merely a checklist of rituals or the observance of norms—it is a faithful walk in the light of God’s commandments and the teachings of the Church.
Yet, we sometimes stumble, limited by ignorance or blinded by our self-righteous attitudes. True adherence to Christ liberates; it sets us free to embrace the values of the Gospel in all their beauty and challenge.
Fear distances us from the Lord. The more fear grips us, the farther we drift from His loving presence. But the Holy Spirit draws near opening our eyes to see the face of Jesus in both mission and ministry.
Jesus calls us to reconciliation, especially with those who have wounded us. No offering at the altar can replace the grace of a reconciled heart. Forgiveness is not an optional virtue; it is the very doorway to healing. Our conversion truly begins when we take that first humble step toward peace with one another.
Once, a young man came to St. Philip Neri burdened with guilt and bitterness toward his estranged brother. St. Philip gently said, “Before you kneel before the crucifix, go and embrace your brother. Christ waits not only at the altar, but also in the arms you have withheld.” The young man wept and left in haste. That evening, he returned—reconciled, renewed, and radiant.
It is time to returning to love and of mending broken bonds. Let this sacred journey begin at home—with our family, our kin, and those closest to us. Complacency only delays the blessings of peace. The way we relate to others reveals the truth of how we relate to God. When we mistreat one another, we distance ourselves from the Divine. Our piety, fake humility, or generous offerings mean nothing if we harbour hatred in our hearts.
As Scripture warns us: “If someone says he loves God, but hates his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20).
Let us be at peace with one another—only then shall we bask in the favour of the Lord.
