Sometimes it takes a shake up to remember who you were when it all began, recognise the variations of yourself along the way and then say f**k it to trying to fit a self constructed mould and just stay on the path of being uniquely you. When was the last time you took the time to look back and remember all your strengths?

Found this in my photos and honestly had to sit with it for a minute.

That’s breakfast in Sydney, sometime around 2013. Angela Vithoulkas standing at the back, who started Eagle Waves, the digital radio start up show I co hosted with Mat Beeche from a studio inside Vivo Cafe. Melanie Perkins two seats down from me. Robert Scoble in the blue shirt on the other side of the table. Melanie and Cliff had just done their first capital raising, Robert was in Australia talking about Google glasses. Wild!

None of them were household names yet.

Outside of us all trying the super futuristic Google glasses, I remember some excellent banter and trying to get the socialface business cards to fly. They were designed to be folded into tiny paper planes because the tagline was “send your social media flying.” 2013 remember!

They did not fly well. Turns out card stock is not great for aerodynamics. The tagline was better than the engineering.

I just thought it was a fun breakfast, with some really cool people all in unique and interesting start ups.

Looking back I was in some really remarkable rooms and tables during those years. Asking questions, listening, learning and quietly figuring out where things were heading.

I went quiet for a while after that. Had my son, moved overseas, kept working but mostly behind the scenes supporting other people. Do I regret not building it big… sometimes, but to have built a biz that gave me freedom to stay home with my family and choose when to work hard and when to chill - priceless.

But those years shaped everything about how I think.

Does anyone recognise the other faces around this table? Would love to know if we’re still connected.
