Australia Just Got Hit With New Tariffs…Again. Here's What I'm Doing About It.
Australia has just been hit with new US tariffs. Here's what that means for my small business — and the practical changes I'm making to become more resilient.
New tariffs. More volatility. Ongoing War. Fuel prices on the rise again.
As a small business owner from Mullumbimby NSW, I can't control any of that.
What I can control is where my money goes.
Over the past few months I've been auditing every subscription, service and supplier my business relies on. I cancelled services that weren't delivering value, rebuilt my website to reduce unnecessary costs, stopped paying for Facebook ads that simply weren't paying for themselves, and started moving as many services as possible to local businesses.
Something surprised me...
The local providers haven't just been competitive on price — they've often been better. I can actually pick up the phone, ask questions, get real advice, and even have features added when I need them.
For me, supporting local isn't just about keeping money in the Byron Shire community anymore. It's about building resilience. In uncertain times, having real people you can call is worth a lot.
I'd love to know:
What big service have you replaced with a local business? Or do you know a local provider that's doing an amazing job?
Drop them in the comments. Let's build a list that helps local businesses support each other.
