🚫 Fishing From the Wall – Please Read

Hey everyone, just a friendly reminder that Sunwater does not allow any fishing from the dam walls.

This is a Sunwater safety rule, not something we can change, and we need to respect it so we can all continue to enjoy access to the dam and its facilities.

👉 Please do not:
• Fish from the wall
• Stand, sit or cast lines from the wall
• Block any access areas or structures around the wall

👉 Please do:
• Fish from designated bank areas, shorelines and approved access spots
• Follow all posted signs and directions from Sunwater staff

We know it can be tempting when the water looks perfect up there, but safety has to come first. By doing the right thing, we help protect everyone’s access and show that our fishing community respects the rules.

🎣 Do I Need a SIPS Permit to Fish Here? YES!

Just a reminder to all anglers that you must have a current SIPS permit (Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme) to fish in QLD’s stocked dams and certain weirs – including places like ours.

✅ Who needs a SIPS permit?
• Anyone 18 years and over fishing in a SIPS dam/weir
• It’s required whether you’re fishing from the bank, boat or kayak, and whether you’re using bait, lures or fly

You can grab a permit:
• Online
• At selected bait & tackle shops and other outlets

(Tip: A yearly permit is usually the best value if you fish often.)

💰 Where does your SIPS money go?

Your SIPS fee doesn’t just disappear into thin air – it directly supports our freshwater fisheries:
• Fish stocking:
Funds are used to buy and release fingerlings (bass, yellowbelly, silver perch etc.) into our dams to keep fish numbers healthy.
• Local fish stocking groups:
Most of the money is returned to local stocking groups who volunteer their time to plan, organise and carry out fish releases.
• Better fishing for everyone:
More fingerlings = more fish growing out for you, your kids and grandkids to catch in future seasons.

So when you buy a SIPS permit, you’re not just ticking a legal box – you’re helping keep our dams well stocked and our fishing future strong. 🐟💙

Let’s do it for the kids.

This morning we sent the Bass fingerlings off on their big underwater adventure! We had an awesome turnout of helpers — committee members, locals, and plenty of excited kids. The little ones loved meeting the fish up close before release time… there was poking, gentle patting, lots of “ooooh look at this one!”, and of course watching them wriggle off into the water like tiny Olympians.

A few fingerlings even scored names — because apparently every good fish deserves a proper send-off!
