Wellington East residents could soon enjoy a safer and more reliable water supply, with the Coorong District Council putting forward a proposal to upgrade the township’s river water system to a fully drinking-standard network.

The council has spent two years exploring options with SA Water to upgrade the current non-drinking system, which serves about 220 properties.

It has now received a viable plan for SA Water to take over the network and is inviting community consultation before considering it.

The next generation of problem-solvers at Coomandook Area School are turning their attention to one of Tailem Bend’s busiest intersections, with students working alongside Coorong District Council to explore solutions for traffic safety and congestion.

Meningie dairy farmer Brad Fischer has been recognised as one of South Australia’s leading agricultural innovators, taking home the Farmer of the Year award at the 2025 South Australian Dairy Awards.

Mr Fischer runs Campbell House with his wife Karin and their family, a multi-enterprise farm home to 600 dairy cows, a beef herd and 24 hectares of crops.

Smoke can affect your health.
You should stay informed and be aware of the health impacts of smoke on yourself and others.
Symptoms of exposure includes shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, burning eyes, running nose, chest tightness, chest pain and dizziness or light-headedness.
If you or anyone in your care are having difficulty breathing, seek medical attention from your local GP.
If your symptoms become severe, call 000.
