As of midday on 28 May, South Australia Police has been granted expanded powers to search for weapons at Murray Bridge Marketplace after it was made a declared shopping precinct.
The declaration allows police to use metal detectors to stop and search people and their belongings in a public place if they are in, entering or leaving the premises.
For the purposes of public safety, police may also direct a person to leave the declared shopping precinct and not return for 24 hours.
The declaration will remain in place until the Commissioner of Police (or a delegate) determines the grounds for it no longer apply.
