When I sent out the first edition of Murray Bridge News in April 2020, it dropped into just over 400 subscribers’ inboxes.

It felt amazing at the time. A week after being stood down from my old job, hundreds of people were already following along.

I couldn’t have imagined the journey ahead: staff, an office, a screen network, a magazine, and a meteoric rise to become the most widely-read news publication in South Australia’s Murraylands.

But today we hit a big milestone: 5000 subscribers. That means almost 20 per cent of our region’s population gets our email edition every Thursday. (That’s up to 40% of local households. And that’s not counting the thousands more who follow our socials or see our screen network every week.)

Does that mean we’re making boatloads of money? Heck no! As an independent local, we don’t typically get any advertising from governments or national corporations. We rely on readers and local businesses to pay our wages. Please consider advertising if you’re able!

For now, though: to all 5000 of you, from the friends and family members who were on the list from the start, to Gale who became our 5000th subscriber this morning, thank you.

(And if you feel like you’re missing out, it’s not too late – sign up for free, or chip in a few bucks a month to support us, at https://www.murraybridge.news/ #/portal/signup.)

Can native plants make Murray Bridge more comfortable as the climate gets hotter?

Scientists hope to find out with this SA-first experiment.

A woody meadow will help scientists assess the suitability of low-maintenance, drought-tolerant native plants for the warmer, drier climate the Murraylands may experience by 2050.
