Good afternoon, readers,
To commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day, the Beechworth RSL will conduct a service for Vietnam veterans and their families on Monday, 18 August.
Following a morning tea at 10am, the group will proceed to the Memorial Park to hold the service from 10:30am.
This Vietnam Veterans Day commemoration is an annual gathering, hosted by four RSL Clubs in the region: Mount Beauty, Beechworth, Bright and Myrtleford, designed as a smaller service for veterans and family members.
Today, Friday, 15 August, is the 80th year of Victory in the Pacific (VP Day), which marks the end of war in the Pacific. This day remembers Australia's efforts in World War II from 1942-45 in the region of Singapore, Borneo, Malaya, Papua, New Guinea and New Britain.
Lest We Forget.

Good afternoon, readers,
The Myrtleford and District Landcare & Sustainability Group Inc. and the Upper Ovens Valley Landcare Group have announced a postponement of this year’s National Tree Day tree-planting workshops, which were scheduled to take place this Sunday, 27 July.
“Unfortunately, with the weather turning decidedly unfriendly this weekend, we are being forced to reschedule,” MDLSG president Paul Reser said.
“The Community Tree Day will now go ahead on Saturday, 2 August beginning at 9:30am.
“Same location on Apex Lane, leading into Apex Park.”
The UOVLG are yet to advise on another date and time for their scheduled Freeburgh tree-planting workshop.
Further details will be announced in future editions of the Myrtleford Times and Alpine Observer.

To conclude the Bright Autumn Festival, Freeburgh will host it's annual Bush Market this Sunday!
As the major annual fundraiser for the Freeburgh Community Hall, it's a great way to support the local community, while enjoying a few market staples.
Appearances by the Bright CFA's firetruck and a display from the local car club are on this year's docket, with stalls and car-boot sales aplenty.
We look forward to seeing you all there!

Good afternoon, readers,
We would like to correct several errors printed in this week's Alpine Observer and Myrtleford Times, regarding the article on Page 2 'It's an award of a lifetime for two of Myrtleford RSL's current stalwarts'. Mr Gary Gunson did not receive the League's 26th life membership, rather he received the highest award that may be made by the League to a person who is not a Service Member: a National Certificate of Merit with Gold Badge.
Myrtleford RSL's President, Mr Bryan Meehan was presented the 26th life membership. His name is now inscribed on the Life Member plaque.
Our most sincere apologies and congratulations to these two outstanding gentlemen and their families.

Congratulations to the Alpine Shire's new Mayor: Sarah Nicholas and Deputy Mayor: Peter Smith!🎉
