It's National Volunteer Week!

For many nonprofits, volunteers are the backbone of operations - in fact, last year's report from Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission tells us that more than 50% of charities in the 2022 reporting period reported they operate with no paid staff at all. The same report tells us there are 3.5 million volunteers in Australia, giving up their time to give back.

Thankfully volunteer numbers are slowly building back up towards pre-pandemic numbers and voluntary roles come in many forms - from regular operational shifts, to corporate volunteering, skilled volunteering, board positions and so much more.

We hope you can take a moment to celebrate your volunteers this week – what special people they are. And, if you'd like to learn about the Australian volunteering landscape, check-out our library of volunteering articles and features.

Peer-to-peer fundraisers all know the heady phase of participant acquisition can quickly be tempered by failure to fundraise. That’s exactly what happened when Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research launched the P2P event Run Before the Sun in 2023.

In 2024 they developed and executed a strategy to push that activation higher. They tracked everything they did and will share all of the results.

Join John Springate at Digi.Raise as he demystifies what ads worked best, the incentives that got most people off $0 and the competitions that raised most funds. We'll also share the tactics used to keep emails engaging, participants posting and Facebook thriving.

if you need to get more of your peer-to-peer participants off $0 and into the fundraising fast lane, make sure you don’t miss this session.

In fact she’s going to share how ActionAid smashed its digital fundraising goals, raised triple the tax appeal target in 2024, and acquired new regular givers. Some of the key things Saarah will reveal are:

- How ActionAid doubled revenue from email, optimised Meta acquisition campaigns, and leveraged daisy chains to boost income
- How tailored welcome journeys increased donor engagement
- How upsells were used at the point of conversion to drive RG acquisition
