Our Story
Hazy Cosmic Jive is a recording studio located in Newcastle, Australia. It is owned by Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist Gareth Hudson.
The studio offers a combination of analog and digital recording equipment, with an SSL Matrix console at its heart. Within the digital world, the studio offers high-end AD/DA conversion, numerous DAW plugins, unlimited overdubbing, and the option to record up to 24 tracks simultaneously. Two MCI tape machines (24-track 2" & 2-track 1/2") can be utilised at any stage within the recording process to bring analog warmth to any project, or an artist can choose to record purely to tape and remain 100% analog throughout the recording project! Neve, SSL, API and custom made preamps, various outboard compressors, EQs and effects, along with some of the world’s finest microphones, will ensure Gareth captures the tones in your head!
As a producer and engineer, Gareth has worked with some of Australia’s top artists, including Amy Vee, Buddy Knox, Nick Saxon, Daniel March, James Chatburn, The Beards, Briggs (feat, Gurrumul), Hilltop Hoods and many more. As a musician Gareth works in many worlds, performing in folk, blues, hip-hop, rock, pop, jazz, classical and musical theatre ensembles. Gareth has a solid musical foundation, studying classical piano (B.Mus) and composition at university.
