In 2023, the 100-year-old Newcastle Ocean Baths got a long-overdue glow-up. And the refurbished baths, long a favourite haunt of Novocastrians, captured the imagination of Tory Loudon, who left the Sydney Theatre Company to lead Newcastle's arts festival, New Annual, in early 2025.

Loudon commissioned two Newcastle theatre makers, playwright Ang Collins and director Janie Gibson of Whale Chorus theatre company, to create a site-specific work for her inaugural program.

The result is Meet Me at the Baths, a "collection of dramatic vignettes" based on stories Collins and Gibson collected from the community.

Collins hopes the show inspires the audience to think about their own connection with the city. She also invites viewers to pack their bathers.
