A crime scene has been established after a 34-year-old man suffered a stab wound and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene after police were called for a concern for welfare, with one officer sustaining a hand injury and another a bite wound during the arrest in Cumbalum.

Marine rescue crews assisting with the multi-agency search for a missing 18-year-old swimmer off Little Bay Beach have been stood down for the day due to deteriorating offshore conditions after the search resumed this morning.

Marine Rescue returned to base around 10:30am due to a 25 to 30-knot-south-westerly and a 1.5 metre swell and is now conducing a coastal contour search.

A driver has died after a single-vehicle crash where the car overturned and rolled into a creek and caught fire on Allan Cunningham Road at Warialda Rail last night.

Emergency services were called around 11pm and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. A further examination of the vehicle revealed the driver had died at the scene.
