EXPECT a more settled You Wahng today as the Queensland Oaks heroine strives to get back into winning form at the Gold Coast.

Leading Newcastle Racecourse trainer Kris Lees Racing opted to remove blinkers and replace them with winkers for the 2200m $1m Magic Millions Subzero.

You Wahng has done well since finishing eighth to Subzero rival Miss Joelene in the 1800m $500k The Wave at the Gold Coast last Saturday, and now has a 3.5kg turnaround in the weights.

“You Wahng was a bit too keen last week, and raced closer than we had expected,” stable spokesman Danny Greer said.

“Kris decided to take the blinkers off and use winkers instead, and believes it will enable her to settle better. " Read more 👇 https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/a-wink-and-a-nod-you-wahng-is-ready

Jake Hull Racing described it as the “most satisfying” win of his blossoming training career.

And it’s easy to understand why.

The Gosford-based former jockey’s 40th career success at Racecourse's Beaumont track yesterday carried much more significance than simply winning a 1150m Class 1.

It was the talented Ferinzo’s first start in 18 months after a fractured pelvis sidelined him at a time when he should have been racing & learning his craft, along with other young horses.

Josh Parr was happy to drive to Newcastle to get heavily supported Ferinzo ($1.70 favorite) home ahead of Perle De Chocolat ($20) & leading Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup’s Bianca Mia ($6) for his second win at only his third start.

“I was getting nervous when he was at such short odds as I knew he was nowhere near wound up after such a long layoff,” Hull said this morning. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos The Entertainment Grounds https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/hull-s-most-satisfying-triumph-with-comeback-ferinzo

SCONE first, then Port Macquarie…..and Rosehill Gardens is next!

Newcastle Racecourse trainer Nathan Doyle’s racing manager David Dyson readily admits it’s a massive jump for unbeaten three-year-old Better Late to tackle city grade on tomorrow at only his third start – but says there are a couple of factors why the rookie young sprinter gets his chance to clear such a hurdle.

“Obviously it is a huge jump going from a 1000m BM58 at Port Macquarie to a Saturday race in town,” Dyson said.

“However he is back against his own age, and gave weight to his rivals when he won last time. He had a wide run in a small field, but still got the job done.

“Better Late drops to 54.5kg, and this is the right time to try him in town.” Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/promising-young-sprinter-ready-for-city-debut

JASON Attard already has one of the leading fancies for the forthcoming Provincial-Midway Championships in talented mare Oui Oui Oui.

And the Hawkesbury Race Club Limited trainer hopes first-up Kembla Grange Racecourse winner Cryptonic can add a “second string” to his bow by again racing well at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow.

Dylan Gibbons takes over on hat-trick seeker Cryptonic in the 1200m Midway BM72.

Five-year-old Cryptonic won a 1400m Midway BM68 at his home track in early September, then resumed to take a 1200m Provincial BM68 at Kembla Grange on January 3.

He carried 60.5kg, and has 1kg less for only his second metropolitan appearance.

Attard says he has kept Cryptonic on the fresh side since his Kembla Grange victory, and considers he is worthy of a crack at the PMC series. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/attard-eyeing-another-pmc-representative

Kris Lees Racing has opted for a gear change on Damien in Saturday’s $3m Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast.

Blinkers come off the gelding, who is one of two representatives for the leading Newcastle Racecourse trainer in the 1400m feature.

Along with Damien, Lees also has the improving Saxobushi, who is seeking a hat-trick.

Zac Lloyd is a new rider for Damien, whilst Lees’ main Queensland rider Andrew Mallyon partners Saxobushi.

Both horses fared reasonably well at today’s barrier draw at Broadbeach, with Damien to start from five and Saxobushifrom nine in the 17-horse field.

Odds-on favorite Ninja drew the extreme outside barrier.

Lees’ two are the only provincial runners in either of the 3YO Guineas or $3m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m). Read more Bradley Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/important-gear-change-on-damien-for-mm-guineas

JAMES Ponsonby didn’t have to spend like a “drunken sailor” to secure a nicely bred unraced three-year-old online two years ago.

Named Drunken Sailor, the son of Cox Plate winner Ocean Park had fetched $220,000 as a yearling in New Zealand – but hadn’t faced the starter when he was put up for sale.

“We were probably a bit lucky because he was way down the order in that online sale in January 2024,” the Hawkesbury Race Club Limited trainer recalled en route home from Dubbo after winning his fifth race with the gelding earlier today.

“He was definitely worth a throw at the stumps, and has been a very good horse to us.”

Ponsonby secured Drunken Sailor for only $1250, and was understandably delighted to see him bounce back to winning form. Read more

TALENTED Race Club mare Oakfield Jupiter’s Provincial-Midway Championships mission takes an important step at Royal Randwick on Thursday.

Trainer Lane Racing plans to trial Oakfield Jupiter, & it will be her only trial before she has a lead-up race into a Qualifying heat of the series at Newcastle on February 28.

Oakfield Jupiter, a four-year-old daughter of Toronado, has won four of her five starts and was unbeaten in two Midway BM72; 1200m at Randwick on October 25 and 1300m at Rosehill Gardens on November 8.

She had a short break at owner Bruce Mackenzie’s property at Salt Ash (near Newcastle), and is pleasing her trainer as he readies her for a tilt at the PMC series. Read more https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/pmc-hopeful-to-trial-this-week-ahead-of-return-talented

TWELVE months ago Hunter-based Kurrinda Bloodstock captured the inaugural $3m Sunlight Plate (1100m) with Private Harry.

Now they’re chasing another $3m triumph, this time with smart youngster Shiki in Saturday’s 1200m Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast.

The Too Darn Hot filly had virtually earned herself a start in the rich event when she collected $141,000 in winning the 1000m G3 Gimcrack Stakes on debut at Royal Randwick last October.

But another winning performance in the Gold Pearl (1100m) against her own s*x at the Gold Coast Saturday cemented her backing up this weekend. Read more Bradley Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/kurrinda-bloodstock-after-another-3m-qld-feature

LAST year’s Provincial-Midway Championships Final hero Matcha Latte is back and raring to go – but unlikely to defend his “title”.

Matcha Latte’s Wyong trainer Nacim Dilmi is delighted with the gelding’s progress, & has given him two trials in preparation for his approaching resumption.

Lightly-raced because of injury dramas in the past, the now six-year-old has raced only 17 times for three wins and four placings.

Matcha Latte won the 1400m $1m PMC Final at Royal Randwick in April last year for fellow Wyong trainer Sara Ryan after clinching a berth by capturing the Wild Card (1400m) at Newcastle Racecourse the previous month.

The Randwick victory was a triumph for previous Domelandtrainer Ryan, who did such a terrific job with the gelding. Read more Bradley Photos
