There’s a story behind every series, but this one is a little special. I (founder Rochelle 👋🏼) was walking in my local neighbourhood when I saw this giant, overgrown bougainvillea down a fairly decrepit driveway.
There was nothing spectacular about the home, in fact, it looked like neither it, or the garden had been tended to in quite some time.
Something about it lit me up, and when I took my husband back there to gawk at it, he couldn’t really understand the fuss.
But the vision was there, and so I grabbed a couple of dresses and my favourite partner in creativity .and.lens.creative and we knocked on the door.
The sweetest, grey haired woman greeted us a few minutes later, and when we told her our plans, her smile touched her eyes.
She told us how she loved her garden, and apologised for how she had abandoned it in her old age.
But we revelled in its wildness. It’s unkept beauty. And spent the next 30 minutes capturing it in all its imperfection.
A week later I went back and showed her the shots. She told me we made it look like a fairy garden and both our days were made.
Perhaps that’s why these will always be some of my favourite shots. Not because they are perfect or thought out like a lot of photoshoots can be, but because they’re not.
