Hello world, this is us (Saddle Club theme song plays in the background) 👋

We're not the best at showing our faces, but there's been lots of new people finding us lately so we thought we'd say hey! We're Bec and Kristy (in that order) and we're sisters! We're designers, the co-creators of Swell, lovers of colour, coffee and our gang of boys (we both have two sons).

Coming to our event tonight? Be sure to say hi! We can't wait to meet you.

Sometimes building a business starts with a gut feeling – and for Jacci Allanson, founder of , it started with the simple pull of home. After beginning her career as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist in Brisbane, she found herself longing for beachside mornings and a lifestyle that made more sense. 🏖️ ☕ 🏃‍♀️

Fast forward to 2025, and Transcend Health has just celebrated its 9th birthday. The Newcastle-based clinic offers a movement-first, evidence-based approach to healthcare – combining exercise physiology and physiotherapy in a collaborative, community-focused setting.

We loved having the chance to chat with Jacci about all things movement, mindset and the Newcastle way.

We were super lucky to be invited out to .dining last week to try their new dinner menu! Reece and the team have done it again, with a menu that perfectly balances fine dining with an approachable atmosphere. We loved everything we tried, but Kristy's favourite was the pork coletta, while her husband Simon was a big fan of the peach buratta and the lamb. A must-visit for your next night out 😍

Keen to hear more about it? We've shared a short interview with owner over on our website - https://swellmag.com.au/acacia-dining-dinner/

What makes a house a home? 🏡

It's the age-old question. To help answer it, we enlisted the help of a professional, Nadia Fitzgerald () who's the interior and exterior designer for . Turns out it's got a lot more to do with emotion and how a house makes us feel, rather than just finding the perfect cushions! Want to hear her advice? Say less...

About Swell Magazine

Swell Magazine is a quarterly printed publication that has been carefully curated and thoughtfully designed in order to showcase the best that Newcastle, and its surrounds has to offer. Locally produced, Swell Magazine aims to inspire people that live and work in the area by uncovering hidden gems and encouraging them to explore something new, while also enticing tourists to visit and providing them with all they need to know while in town.

In today’s digital age, many people still crave the tactile element that has been lost from online media. With this thought in mind, Swell has been designed to be collected, displayed on coffee tables and stored among your favourite books. Its pages will be enjoyed slowly and readers are encouraged to get lost in the words and images, time and time again.

The magazine’s main focus will be on showcasing Newcastle and Hunter-based businesses, encouraging readers to shop, dine and experience new things locally. It will uncover the stories and people behind some of Newcastle’s most-loved places, as well as the ever-expanding number of new businesses popping up around the city.
