Connecting the generations through story telling is something we can take for granted. Perhaps many of us have felt the missed opportunity to know more about our grandparents or mums and dads, especially what life they lived before they themselves were parents. Family stories, such as those passed from previous generations, are a link connecting family members throughout time. Leaving a recorded history of your life can be an important gift to yourself and family. Lunch with a Spy. A Story That Lives On

A few years ago I caught up with Joseph for lunch. Previous I had the profound privilege of recording part of Joseph’s life story. Since then, Joseph has passed away, but his story and his legacy live on.

Joseph was a remarkable man. A member of the French Resistance, he was captured by the Gestapo and escaped on two separate occasions, before going on to play a critical role in smuggling plans for a new Messerschmitt jet engine back to London during World War II. Quietly courageous and deeply humble, he never sought recognition , yet his service earned him one of France’s highest and rarest honours: the Ordre de la Liberation, created by General Charles de Gaulle. Joseph was named a Companion of the Liberation, receiving the Croix de la Liberation for his distinguished service in the liberation of France.

Working with you is a privilege I never take for granted. Every story you trust me with , every memory, lesson, laugh, and reflection — is a gift. This work is not about cameras or editing, it’s about people, lives lived, and stories that deserve to be preserved.

Thank you for inviting me into your homes, your histories, and your most meaningful moments. Your courage, honesty, humour, and resilience continue to remind me why this work matters.

I’m deeply grateful for the stories we’ve captured together and the memories now safeguarded for future generations.
