When I was growing up, I was involved with a lot of autism family support groups. And was often told I connected really well with autistic people 🤔

I grew up to be involved in many elements of the disability community, volunteering for organisations, working as a support worker, studying social work, working in the disability sector and now advocating on social media as an autistic person 💪

I had made my way through all those roles before realising I was in fact autistic, and went on to receive my diagnosis 🤯

Neurodivergent people find each other, it’s like some sort of magnet 🧲 We end up gravitating towards each other because we understand each other, on a deeper level (most of the time)

And so it’s so interesting to me, that now I am a loud and proud autistic person, showing up online, advocating and supporting others with their social media 🥳

But writing it down is so different 😢

You have to actually sit with it, put language to things you don’t usually let yourself think about for too long. Write down all the impacts in one go 💛

Then the realisation of just how much your carrying hits…

It’s also weird admitting it all in writing for a stranger to read and decide if it’s “enough” to get us the help we desperately need 😮‍💨

If you’re a carer who’s had to write one of these too, I see you 🫶
