👋 Hey busy Small Business Owner. Have you ever noticed how being needed everywhere can feel a lot like being good at your job?
For a long time, I wore my busyness like a badge of honour.
Every question came to me, every decision waited for my nod, and I told myself that this was what true commitment looked like. I was the engine room, the glue, and the navigator all at once.
Then, life forced a pause.
No phone, no emails, nothing.
The part that surprised me wasn't that things went wrong. It was that nothing happened at all. The business didn't just slow down; it stopped. That was the moment I realised I hadn't actually built a business. I had built a high-pressure job that couldn't survive a single day without me.
It is so hard to see this from the inside because being the bottleneck looks exactly like having high standards. It looks like care. But eventually, your business can only grow to the width of your own calendar.
I didn't fix this by making a big hire. I fixed it by doing the least glamorous task: I tracked where my week actually went.
I had to be brutally honest about what genuinely required my input and what I was holding onto simply out of habit.
If you feel like everything runs through you, please know that this is just a stage of the journey - it’s not the finish line.
You can choose to navigate your way out of it.
If you were unreachable for a week, what would actually stop?
Share your thoughts below - I’d love to hear your honest reflections.
