IN THIS WEEK'S PAPER 📰

C&K Oakey Community Kindergarten celebrated the 60th anniversary of their building at their annual colour run on Sunday morning.🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Although the kindy has been operating since 1962, it did not originally have a permanent home. Constructed was funded and completed by the Oakey Lions Club of the time under the watchful eye of Danish-born master builder Tom Hansen. 🔨🦁

The building was opened in 1966, and, since then, it has been the week-day home of thousands of local kids, including the current class, some of whom are pictured below.

Elsie Kussrow, almost certainly Oakey's oldest resident turned 102 last week. Born Elsie Gesler at Maclagan in 1924, Elsie grew up during the Great Depression and married a returned servicemen she had met at a Gowrie Little Plain Hall dance. Happy birthday Elsie! 🎉

Meanwhile, Oakey State High School student Jackson Barnes took up the sport of target shooting with his dad only 14 months ago, but has picked up a swag of medals since then at state championships events. More about Jackson on Page 12.
