Just out! 'My Intellectual Odyssey' by John Mathews. In this memoir, Mathews outlines the twists and turns of a career that spans six decades, culminating in his earning a Professorship at Macquarie University in Sydney. He discusses his career as an intellectual Odyssey, full of challenges and controversies and unexpected developments. He outlines how he built on his PhD in London to act as advisor to unions in expanding the scope of their negotiations to encompass health and safety concerns; and how this led to interventions in debates over industrial and economic democracy. Available from Hybrid Publishers and good book stores.

We were pleased to attend the wonderful book launch of Paul Valent's new book 'Know Thyself: Our hidden selves in a precarious world'. Great speeches by senior lecturer Daniel Heller and Paul.

Authors beware! There's a scam email going around targeting individual authors, claiming to want to feature their book at an upcoming event. The email is from [email protected] and claims to be from Brighter Horizons Club, but doesn't appear genuine. ☹️

Excited for the release of 'Know Thyself: Our Hidden Selves in a Precarious World' by PAUL VALENT.
After surviving the Holocaust, a little boy makes a pledge. He will understand war so that it is not repeated. So begins Paul Valent’s life’s work, an investigation into the reasons why humans hate and hurt, rather than love and care for each other.
Over the next eight decades, the world-respected doctor, psychotherapist and traumatologist, utilising new discoveries of how the brain works, apprehends the workings of his own mind and the minds of patients, victims and – with courage and sensitivity – perpetrators.
Valent reveals how the bulk of our brains conceals a mindset appropriate to our jungle heritage, its challenges and traumas. Valent then describes how this mindset manifests in violence that ranges from bullying to war and the Holocaust.

Great review of 'A Jew on The Way' by Adam van Heerden, from
Amanda:
Among the thousands of books written on the Camino de Santiago, this one is unique and with a core message that is so relevant to our present world. It's a beautifully written memoir on the camino & Jewish identity that is philosophically rich, yet grounded in relatable and poignant personal stories. Not to mention it would make a great (only 150 g!) camino accompaniment whether you're Jewish or not. It captures the shared magic of the camino so perfectly while at the same time being highly personal, and it grapples with the divine in a deeply human way. Humble, humorous, heartful storytelling and I loved every word.

New 10th edition of Conveyancing in Victoria!
As with earlier editions, it starts by explaining the basic elements of a conveyancing transaction, then provides a step-by-step guide to both the manual and electronic processes. This is complemented by detailed explanations and precedents. It envisages the problems that can arise and offers suggestions on how to avoid them. If it’s too late for that, then there are strategies for dealing with them.
This book will suit a person who just wants to know how to do conveyancing. It will also provide an invaluable reference for those practising in this area.
