This collection of 8mm and Super8 movies was brought in from South Africa recently. It contains family movies dating back to the wedding of my parents in law in 1947!!! I have now converted all of these and put them on an external harddrive and it can be watched 75 YEARS LATER on our big TV screen! Don't hesitate to have yours done before they get brittle and damaged and the footage is lost forever.

Why should you have your video tapes converted??? Here's 12 reasons why! Don't wait till it's too late!! Have them preserved on DVD and USB now! I will go to extraordinary lengths to save your precious memories having already taken a camcorder apart (never to be put back together again!) because it would not release the tape. 😀
PS. ALL of the videos shown were successfully repaired and/or cleaned by me and subsequently converted to digital format with minimal loss of footage.

Repairing Videos
I often come across videos which are faulty in some way. This can interfere with the picture i.e. snowy and scratchy, or in some cases it just shuts my machine down. There are many ways in which a tape can be faulty.
* A cracked casing. This is normally a simple fix as I have spare cassettes which I can used to temporarily put the tape in. I usually return the tape to its original casing after recording (so I can use my cassette again!)
* Dust, dirt (or spiderweb!!!) in the cassette. This lands on the magnetic strip and the dirt transfers onto the heads and immediately your picture is gone. Usually, this can be fixed by running a cleaning cassette through but sometimes I have to take the machine apart and clean the heads.
*Another problem is when the tape is damaged, torn, twisted or snapped altogether. Needless to say. it won't play, but in general, this is a simple fix and I daresay, nine times out of ten it can be fixed and plays perfectly. Sometimes I lose a few minutes of (damaged) tape, but save the rest.
*A bigger issue is when mould is present in the cassette. This is a problem with a lot of immigrants whose belongings have arrived by sea. Moisture has gotten into the cassette, upon arrival tapes were stored in the garage or in the attic, and mould starts growing. I have received some tapes of which I am too scared to put them in my machines for fear they will damage the machine beyond repair.
I am pleased to report though, that all three tapes shown in the pictures were fixed and copied successfully (y)

Space Saving!!!
Apart from the fact that your memories are now safe, have a look at this picture to get an idea what a space saver this is!!! Two very large boxes, containing 71 VHS + DVmini tapes and numerous CD's and DVD's, taking up huge space in any home, all converted and put onto a 128Gb USB stick which you can watch on your smart TV or your computer, and you can hang it on your keyring!! (all this material was also put onto discs, as my converter machine automatically records on discs and I have no choice there, and this can be kept as back-up)
