Here’s the twist: there were never actually 12. The name was a tourism rebrand from the 1920s — before that, this stretch of coast was known as “The Sow and Piglets.” Erosion never stopped though, and today only 8 stacks are still standing. One collapsed live in 2005, filmed by tourists who happened to be there at the time.

What makes it hit different is knowing this isn’t permanent. Geologists estimate these formations will be completely gone in around 10,000 years. So every photo taken here is really documenting something the ocean is slowly erasing.

The short answer is: yes, it’s possible. The honest answer? Your breathing room will be practically zero.
If you go into full survival mode—budgeting around $150 for the absolute cheapest hostels and sticking 100% to free activities like hitting the beaches, exploring national parks, and hiking—you can technically make the math work. Australia has plenty of stunning free nature to explore without spending a dime on tickets.
But here is the reality check: Australia is packed with mind-blowing, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Traveling with a budget that tight can easily turn your dream trip into a stressful financial balancing act. One single unexpected expense, and your whole trip derails.
If you want to truly experience the best of what this country has to offer, the smartest move is to plan for a slightly bigger budget. It is worth it to hold off, work a little harder, and save up some extra cash before hitting the road. That way, you travel with the freedom to say “yes” to exclusive adventures, rather than just surviving day by day.

✈️ Australia has officially begun replacing its traditional paper Incoming Passenger Card with a digital version!

Following a successful pilot program with eligible passengers on selected Qantas international flights, the Australian Government has started rolling out the Digital Incoming Passenger Declaration. The system is already available for eligible travelers on certain routes and will be expanded progressively across all international airports.

The new digital process is designed to reduce queues, speed up border clearance, and make arriving in Australia faster and more convenient for millions of international travelers. In the future, passengers will also be able to complete the declaration online and through participating airline apps.

A major step toward making international travel to Australia even smoother! 🇦🇺✈️
