“Micro is mighty” was the resounding consensus following our panel discussion alongside Jo Stone, Jessica Ridley, me (Greer Quinn) + Michelle Bates at Mumbrella’s in Sydney about the pluses and the pitfalls of going solo as a micro PR agency.
✨It’s been amazing to connect with communicators, creatives + freedom seekers during these past few days with some of the industry’s best and brightest.
✨Normally, during an economic downturn, comms/PR is seen as a luxury item + often the (mistakenly) first function to be on the chopping block for big corporates + SMEs alike.
✨But the complications + nuances of Covid-19, have meant that there’s currently a dearth of in Australia.
✨Part of that is because we’re not accessing the same levels of cross-pollination from the other English-speaking countries such as the UK, Canada, America + NZ.
✨The other piece of the story is that the past few years of existential threats has meant there’s more to communicate.
✨From public health messages, correcting/addressing disinformation, providing more support to increasingly skeletal newsrooms, keeping important social issues top-of-mind + communicating the perils of climate change, there’s been a high need for words, connection + scaling of messaging.
✨In amongst this apocalyptic rubble + trouble is a light 💡 (as is frequently the case when it comes to the most resilent of the planet’s species, humans) in the form of micro-PRs bandying together to support one another.
✨Big shoutout to my fellow panelists + all the amazing digital + support groups who have kept me lifted, optimistic + strong throughout this year + all of the years.
✨And, an extra special thanks to my It’s PR Darlings co-host with the most Jo Stone who has kept me giggling, learning + engaging (wish I could add “growing” here, but we remain the “long and the short of it”).
✨Shout out to Jessica Ridley of BTW MEDIA who spoiled us rotten by hosting post-event drinks (Jo + I finally got to honour our Ab Fab inspiration with a glass of champagne 🥂).
✨And the adorable Michelle Bates of Commsgrad + Bango Group, who will forever be our “Bradbury” after stepping in + keeping our numbers even when the lovely Elle Kress was too unwell to join the stage.
