Community Broadcasting Foundation is thrilled to welcome Karen Iles to our Board as an Independent Director.

Karen is a Dharug Aboriginal woman with over 20 years Non-Executive Director experience across Commonwealth appointments, non-profit boards and expert panels.

She is the Founder and Principal Solicitor at Violet Co Legal and Consulting, and an Adjunct Professor of Practice at the University of Newcastle's School of Law and Justice.

Karen’s legal practice is focused on workplace law and discrimination, working with women, gender diverse and First Nations clients. She has received numerous recognitions for her pro bono and legal advocacy work including Winner of Private Practitioner of the Year at the Women Lawyers Association Awards (2023).

Karen is passionate about community media engagement on justice and gender-based issues – having worked closely with organisations and clients that often rely on local community media to amplify their stories and experiences.

Thanks to Luke Gosling MP for dropping by Teabba - Top End Aboriginal Bush Broadcasting Association and seeing first hand the important work they do for communities in the Top End.

Quick Response grants mean Community Broadcasting Foundation can provide targeted support in times of need - support for community broadcasting from MPs like Luke Gosling and Minister Anika Wells MP means TEABBA and other community broadcasters can keep communities informed when they need it most.

With regular power outages impacting the Teabba - Top End Aboriginal Bush Broadcasting Association's broadcasts, a Quick Response grant from Community Broadcasting Foundation has supported the organisation to install a backup generator – ensuring continuity of service for 29 remote Indigenous communities.

Upon receiving the grant TEABBA told us that "this investment strengthens our ability to keep broadcasting during power outages and unexpected disruptions, helping ensure that communities remained informed, connected, and heard".

Congratulations to Nest Radio - 98.9 on their recent relaunch!

Celebrating with a community BBQ last Sunday, Nest Radio (formerly North West FM) opened its doors to the community to come down to the studios, meet their favourite presenters and enjoy live performances from local musicians.

Our CEO Jo and Board member Jurgen also dropped by for a visit! Congratulations Nest Radio 🎉
